Since I've been away from driving since late '09 and had only about 9 months experience then, I'll have to go with a starter company to jump back in.

However, I wondered if anyone has insight as to which companies are known for NOT sending you home for something that should have been checked out prior to inviting you to training/refresher/orientation.

Obviously, I've had some gaps in employment the past 18 months - I've had jobs, but they're temporary or the business lays-off, etc. and it takes a while sometimes to find another. You know the story.

So I don't mind giving my info over the phone, but I don't want to travel to another state and spend a couple days (plus expenses) just to be told they won't hire me over something they knew about from the very beginning.

So the question is: do you know of companies that I can bank on their invitation as being solid provided I've been upfront and honest and provided I'm capable of performing whatever tasks they require?

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Providing the gaps are short and not too many, I would start gathering notorized statements from these temp jobs. Big PIA..... but I dont think any carrier would be able to bypass the FMCSA rules about 10 years of employment history. So many companies are getting audits due to log violations and the new enforcement and when they audit their drivers logs, they also dig through employment files making sure they have all the required documents in place (if not.... big fines). Its getting to the point where all these companies will be able to hire, will be fresh new meat off the street with no past or mucked up PSP scores........that will be a sad day in our industry,

Thanks, bro. Just out of curiosity.... do you know why FMCSA even has rules concerning previous employment? What's the point, unless they want to make sure that someone didn't have time in the past 10 years to drop off the grid and undergo some terrorist training or something.

Yeah it does suck to be sent home! Make sure you have your MVR, 10 years employment if self employed then 1099's if there is a gap then you need a notorized letter stating why. Usually better if written by a relative or someone that can vouch for you. If for any reason you have had medical leave or absence then you need a note from your doctor. Also any meds you are taking make sure your doctor gives you a note that way they won't send you home to get one. Make sure you have your license in good standing with med. card up to date. Also bring your Social Security Card. Sometimes it also helps to bring a blank check so that you can get paid right away. Now besides this, it would really benefit you to have a resume done. This way you aren't battling through paperwork for 3 days of orientation. Plus it makes you look a little more professional. On that note, dress up! Don't be shlub! Look sharp cause it may make the difference in what truck you are issued!

    Good luck!
