The best way around it I found was to rent a office in a building that has the "community" receptionist. The state people said that "maybe" ok but wouldn't confirm it because they claimed the person needed to be working for your business..
The point from what they claimed, was to stop people from opening up trucking businesses in the state just for cheap insurance rates, so they try to make it more difficult if you aren't a "resident" because you wouldn't be paying any taxes to the state the way their LLC's are set up..
Example my LLC being in MO but I lived in FL, so the money passes through to me and because I'm not a MO state resident I don't pay their state income tax and file in FL. This is why they don't have that same requirement if you pull it from your home, because you'd then be a resident paying taxes..
Now I understand their logic behind that, but the entire reason I was getting forced into trying to do that, is because Missouri refuses to allow you to transfer your LLC to another state. They are essentially holding my ####ing business my LLC hostage.
Luckily, Florida my home state will allow you to domesticate a foreign LLC.. Meaning what I had to do was set up a foreign entity in FL to do business here sop I can pull my MC/DOT here and after that's set up I can domesticate it and drop the MO part.. essentially forcibly taking my company away from MO.. I can also just leave the MO side active if I want to because I'm not paying any taxes there and I don't have to file anything so I can just pay a yearly fee to a agent to keep it open there if I like.Last edited: Aug 23, 2019

I'm thinking about doing the authority. I may pay the 300 to see what quotes I get. I live in GA so hope my rate won't be to high, I hear of guys laying 15k of 18k or more.
But I may would have to do something like getting the business in another state to make it cheaper.
But their are guys who are making it living here in GA so I don't see why I couldn't make it either.
Now the thing with authority say i wanted to add trucks. I don't want to be restricted to just one truck,
So I would like a policy that let's me add this number of trucks to it. -
I'm in FL so being able to haul cars is kinda a necessity but if you can tell them just general freight it will be the cheapest. Also dont do oil field stuff because that skyrockets the rate as well.
The less boxes you check so far as freight types the better. Dont even say you will haul wood because it pays cheap anyway..
Myself I told them general freight and cars as my only two load types. The least you do specially for that 1st year the better.
As for rates in GA, from what I've heard, they are pretty close to the same as FL.. Personally I was going to be ok with anything in the sub $20k/year range but only if it included cars. -
How's it going btw? I'm back to sifting thru this.

Aside from that the only real reason I was trying to set up in MO is because that's where my LLC was at and MO wouldn't let you transfer a LLC out of their state.. (gotta love that you can't move your business out of their state)
Anyway I found a work around by setting up a foreign entity in FL eventually FL will let me naturalize that foreign entity allowing me to steal my LLC away from MO... Most states allow you to transfer your LLC in or out but not MO.. so remember that people if you happen to set up there.. -
