As I called the National Independent Insurance, the guy who picked up the phone said he is the owner and there is no middle man and yet the insurance he offered was $8700 , which is way too much for a 48 year old driver with 5 year of clean record, except a road hazard incident which was snuck in by Progressive agent. Last year in Hammond LA (exit 40 Petro ) an unmarked truck with a short trailer kept on following me any where I park my truck (event if the parking was illegal he still followed and parked next to me)
Then early morning when I left to go towards TX, I took wrong direction on I-12 I picked east instead of west and noticed that an SUV with cracked w/shield followed me as well when I made the U-turn off of the highway so did the SUV. As soon the belt broke off of my tire they pulled behind me and started taking pictures of my tires and truck. The lady was possibly in her fifties w/ glasses and dressed nice the guy looked a bit older and so so clothes. She said that the piece of the rubber made her engine belt make a noise (She had frozen Idler pulley which was obvious) I informed Progressive to as what happened but some how some went behind the seen and they put the road hazard claim on my policy and paid a check to some one in TN. And later on progressive increased my insurance by approx $2000. I tried to call around for new insurance but could not get directly with any agent. A really tired guy called Darnell Bacon or some name like that out of North Jersey dragged the time out to the last moment and I could not get to changed the Insurance CO. At the same time he told me that ,"changing insurance in the middle is not a good thing. ( Who he works for I have no Idea.) Progressive asked me for my IFTA miles which was submitted and no answer was received from them after that till now they are saying we are canceling due to the vehicle travel out of the 500 mile radius ( I am paying about $7600 which is a bit high for interstate trucking with 65000 miles per year driving on long haul to TX and GA.)

Once you have been in business for at least a year, most commercial insurance companies will want to look at your IFTA miles. You can expect them to ask for your last 4 quarters of filings. You may want to check around for rates. I have found that rates vary widely. I usually get a better rate with my current insurance agent, but still check with others each year prior to renewing. Progressive was almost double my current rates, even though I got hit with a 15% increase this year. I have a perfect driving record, no points on my CSA and an excellent safety record with no accidents, tickets or claims. Even with the increase from my current insurance company everyone was still higher. I would check with Northland, Great West, Farmers and any other insurance company that you can think of who might write commercial insurance. There aren't that many that write truck insurance. If you can find an independent insurance agent who can write for multiple insurance companies then they can shop your insurance with more than one carrier.

I have been doing some research and talking to the O/O in this area and finding out that most in this area insurance is about $5000 to $7000 with reefer breakdown included ( $585/month and $615/ month most commonly). I have a dry van and still all quotes I am getting are over $8000 . It appears if they all were contacted by some kind of behind the seen mini Mafia who has some how learned " how to leach a phone"
Western Truck Insurance $8200 by Nothland, Cowles and cowles $8900 with Carolina Casualty and Canal Insurance $8700 from Debbie. Progressive says they do not have over 500 mile radius in NJ. my question how much is every one else paying for theirs and what kind of services are you getting. Rigquote has not been able to give me quote for renewal yet.

It is how you sell yourself. Have you been driving trucks for farm/local work? Many companies are asking for "experience" so give yourself the credit of the couple years local work. Now, when the get to the OTR question then you have to dance a little. But with the right agent you can get them to submit your app without adding additional information that can hurt you.

But stop submitting apps to you get this figured out. Because once the insurance company has your app from one agent it is a done deal with them. Hopefully all the quotes have been "informational" without being submitted to underwriting.
