Running it on a Cascadia using the perch mount and yes,SWR is high due to reflection.
This is the 10 inch shaft antenna. I ordered a 22 inch shaft for it.
In theory would I need to shorten the whip by 12 inches then get SWR set or could it be tuned without cutting a foot off the whip?
Just wondering if anyone has been able to get decent SWR using the longer shaft.
Getting ready to put my Galaxy 98VHP in the truck but before I run the power for it I have to get the antenna up to par.
I also have 9ft of Times Microwave coax to install instead of the 18 ft. no name brand stuff that is on the truck now.

I went for a 5 inch shaft to a 18" on my Wilson 2k. They more or less shorten the whip 10 to 12 inches if I recall correctly. He just kept snipping away till they the SWR's right.
EZ Money Thanks this. -
You could add a 4 foot shaft and might only subtract 6 inches from the whip.
EZ Money and jessejamesdallas Thank this. -

I extended a cheap oil coil antenna by 44" and probably didn't even take 10" off the whip before it was right again.
Add the 22" shaft under the existing 10" shaft, like I did with my 44", don't replace it. 32" of shaft will work good.Last edited: Feb 11, 2017
