I am in wv and am looking at hiring a driver. I was told today by an insurance person that in order to be legal I will need to have workers comp insurance in every state that the truck will be traveling.
Is this how it is? I was told that the cost for workers comp starts at 1500 a year and goes up from there. Well 1500 a year x 48 states = a heck of alot of money. About 72000 at the cheapest. How is this possible?
It makes no sense what so ever to me so I am asking and hoping someone here knows how it is.
Thanks

If I am correct the work comp is in the state you live in and it covers all 48 states
wildbill123 Thanks this. -
Correct, but not all states require workers comp. Ca. does, Az. does not, for instance.

I have mine through WA state, $1.84/hr. for 49 states and all of Canada.
Some shippers and recievers require you to have it. -
Another good case for the argument that if you are moving up in business to where you are hiring people, you need to also have an attorney you can call for advice. Much as I have issues with attorneys in general, it is cheaper than having a government agency messing up your life.
