If my driving duties finish at a warehouse 30 or 50 miles from my house. I can run home on PC as long as I return to the warehouse before I dispatch the next day.
Same as if I delivered a load and I am empty. I drive home 30 miles not advancing a load or under dispatch.

    Numbers 1,2,7

I said, "I prefer to sleep at home instead of 30 miles away after a long day." I did not say or imply "finish a trip out of hours".

No, it doesn't. It finishes at the starting location.(The trip is there and back) FMCSA has been very clear about this in the guidance.
    1. Doesn't apply. You weren't at a lodging.
    2. Doesn't apply. You weren't at your terminal.
    7. Doesn't apply. You weren't at an offsite location (Again, other guidance states offsite location is something like a construction site, not the receiver)

    So no,none of them apply

I do that all the time. pc can be used for anything when you are empty and do not have a load in the trailer or you are not advancing toward next load . You just have to take. 10hr reset after driving pc . I got 5 dot inspection with pc upto 300 miles one way . Officers didn't said anything . Second if you own your own equipment you can cover the name and numbers on the side of the truck and drive it like a personal vehicle .

Wrong. It's not a valid use of PC. Just because you are empty means nothing to the guidance. Just because you got away with using PC incorrectly, doesn't mean you are right, it just means the officer didn't care. Another one might.

What regulation or guidance is this?

Covering the numbers just means you broke another regulation, not that you can drive. Also, what's the regulation that claims this?

Come on people. PC isn't difficult. Stop reading what you want and read what it says.

Reading through this entire thread in all honesty gave me a headache. I just have one comment to make. Forget about everything! Does anybody know how easy it is to bring attention to you or your carrier? Not long ago a trucker was part of an accident in Texas. The trucker was not at fault and did not suffer any damage. The guy simply got trapped when the accident happened around him. When a Texas DOT cop passing on the highway going the other way saw the truck he flipped around and drove up the median. He did a full DOT on the driver and his vehicle. The driver was a local driver about 200 miles from Midland and also had some problems with all his legals. Texas DOT had the truck towed and the driver had to wait for his employer to come get him. I will ask my question again! Do you know how easy it is to have attention brought to you or your carrier? I suggest you make EVERY run as if it will be that run when you are standing sweating bullets praying that you did not miss something 5 days ago!

Yes, run it how you would like it.

    This derail here though, Wow!
I run my logs like I'm playing a chess match with DOT. They ask for my logs, i slide em over with a smirk on my face.
