    Ok, again for the veterans.

Which is better, if offered? Mileage or percentage? I have seen some sites offering both versus just mileage.

Is one better than the other? Or does it become ultimately, no difference?

    Thanks you!

Are you planning on buying a truck right out of the gate? Usually percentage pay is for O/O.

Company drivers usually, and I stress usually, get paid by the mile.

No, Not yet. But I have seen "percentage pay" looking thru the "jobs" posts starting at 26% and there was NO distinction regarding experience. In fact one even said this was a great way to "start".

Is this a scam? I worked "piece work" most of my life, so I realize the benefit of such a situation. However, this could also be a ploy to lure unsuspecting new drivers (?)

    Any thoughts?

Unless you get to see the ratecon you have no idea if your % is based on truth or a lie. But of course management would never lie right? :biggrin_25525:

Often percentage works out better in the drivers favor... but do you as a new driver know what that load is being billed at? Freight rates vary by commodity... I haul a reefer, a load of fresh strawberries pays more than say a load of frozen pizzas It is time sensitive and more fragile.

How does a new driver know what his percentage is based on. Like i said, most companies pay company drivers mileage pay.

I think that percentage pay works better for drivers or owner operators, for the most part. I have worked on percentage and mileage. I always did better on percentage. I have also paid my own drivers percentage. Most of them did better on percentage than on mileage. The irony is that some would have preferred mileage pay even though their checks would be smaller.

It's true loads vary so if you are paid by mile which rate do you think your pay will be based on ? If you're paid percentage you are guaranteed a raise when rates go up . Per mile the pay could stay the same for years .
Our drivers are paid percentage but are guaranteed $.40 a mile for all miles including bobtail and deadhead .

Thanks Guys. As I said earlier, I worked piece work most of my life so the concept of "The harder you work, The more you can make " really appeals to me. I have always been happy and successful under those parameters. My LEAST favorite were hourly jobs. ALOT of whiners :( and no matter how hard you work, you can never make more! Then some "whiney crybaby" works HALF as hard as you do AND WON'T stop whining about the job and the company. OK, I'll get off my soapbox now. But I have had ENOUGH of these type of people.

I Know their in the trucking industry to, I just won't have to sit next to them for 14 hrs a day! :)

    Thanks again !
