I looking at various rate index's and I have a stupid question. If the weighted average is say 1.30 per mile and the FSC is .29 would this be a total of 1.59 per mile or is the weighted average including the FSC? In relation to this there are accessorial fees, are you adding this to the totals i.e.

    700 Miles x 1.30 per mile + 0.29 fsc = 1.59 per mile = 1113.00 + Accessorial charge?

    or

    700 miles x 1.30 including FSC + Accessorials charge?

Thanks in advance, sorry for sounding ignorant here =(

Guess it's not an ignorant question as many have read it but not been able to answer you. I've read it too, but don't know how to answer it. Some broker loads I got listed the load charge and then a separate charge for fuel surcharge. Most loads just list the freight charge.
Wish I could answer your question....

This is what I have found if anyone else is curious, this is how you should be offering it up to the broker, if your on a load board and the average mile is 1.30 don't forget to add your FSC! If they say thats too much move on... We have so many hands in our pocket that we need every penny!

    700 Miles x 1.30 per mile + .29 cpm fsc = 1113.00 + Accessorials

I don't know these rate service idea's. rate services are against my religion lol,

allow me explain: my whole thing is position the truck where you can demand your rate, when brokers try to tell me "what's in the load" I calmly tell them "my company" doesn't allow me to accept quotes from anybody(making it sound like there's some higher up forbidding me), but if you want me to, I will quote you, but only if you want me to, if not, I'm off the phone.

If even the strong area are weak, I mean "really" weak; then the average rate thing is thrown out the window anyway, because "marketwise" the broker has the upper hand and is going to pay you what he can get you to take: you may tell him what you need, but they're not buying it, if there are 100 trucks lined up behind you for the load he's going to take the cheapest runner. See, there you go, no need for paying a service to tell you a rate (for those that pay for that service) when you and only you know how much it cost to run and how much you expect to make. make sense?.......Jo Bernard
