It's really no problem either way, unless of course they had the entrance blocked. Lets say they didn't, and you obeyed your red light, no big deal, they just wave you thru. Lets say you obey sign, no big deal they just bring you back if they messed up...right? I would probably of watched the trucks in from of me and if none, would have went through, just incase. Just my thoughts...

My rule of thumb is when in doubt pull in the scale. Unless it's obvious not to do so you will likely never have a problem. Blow by one when you should have stopped in the officers opinion - maybe the start of a bad day.

If the sign says "all trucks by pass scales"... I wave and roll on by.

I know the pre pass is supposed to take precedence (except in some states when hauling HAZ or Oversize), but if it is closed or says bypass... I'm not stopping.

I wouldn't want to count the times I got a red and the scale wasn't even open.

I'd bypass regardless of freight. "All Trucks Bypass" means they don't want to see me.

heres my scale question, i was going threw a scale and infront of me inline was a truck bobtail, I thought, what the hell is he inline for. Am I wrong? are you supposed to stop when bobtail? Or if your bobtail and your redlight from prepass?

i could be wrong, but i just passed that very spot a few days ago, and i thought it said scale was OPEN when the lights were flashing......but i've seen that sign once in the past 2 yrs...so again, i could be wrong.

IF the sign infact said "bypass when flashing" and lights were flashing? Bypass. Now i've had the chicken light go green, and electronic signs saying "truck enter scales". I've had the light go red, and get signs that say "truck ok to bypass". Either way...i go by what the chicken light tells me.
