If your record is clean, then the $85 TSA background check is no problem. Otherwise it's just studying & taking the test. Gotta make 80% or you'll have to retake.
The hardest part for me is the mixed load requirements, which you won't get very far into with tankers.Gumboslef9384 Thanks this. -
Test for tanker is easy. Somewhat harder for haz, but there are practice tests here on TTR. For haz you have to go to your dmv. You will have to pay for fingerprinting and the background check. Your dmc can tell you how.
slim shady and x1Heavy Thank this. -
Its easy. Just takes about a month for the clearance then you go take the test.

It's really easy to pass your hazmat if you study, waiting for the TSA fingerprints to clear is the hard part.
x1Heavy Thanks this. -
Was actually easier than I thought it would be~passed on the 1st try~I studied and took the practice test for about 2 months

Hazmat just need a clean record to pass with tsa. Might as well get the Twi card while you’re at most companies reimburse for them.
From the test I took the questions I remembered is that they ask how a bol need to be layed out remember. ISHP- IDnumber-shippingname-hazardclass-packinggroup.
Can you ship leaking containers? What should you do if a container is leaking.
How many sides of the vehicle need to be placarded?
Who provides the placards?
How often should you do tire checks?
Who do you call to report a spill?
What roles do the shipper/carrier/driver have?
Where does the bol need to be when in transit or if driver is away from truck?
And a few about smoking.
Do you stop at railroad crossings? If so how many feet?
Tanker-
They Just ask a few questions about surge and the ease of rolling over vs a box truck.
