Hello everyone, just recently got my authority and have made a few runs so far. Definitely a learning curve but im loving it. I have a few more questions for anyone willing to share.
central dispatch:
It seems most of the cars on there aren't paying much, from as low as 50 cents a mile and even some lower. I have gotten a few closer to a dollar a mile. I talked to one guy I delivered a vehicle to, he payed the shipping company 150 dollars with a credit card and then payed me 140 dollars at time of delivery. It was a hundred miles at 1.40 a mile. Not bad pay but geez, the shipping company(dispatcher on central) made more than I did.
*I guess I just have to try and get my own customers after doing it a while?
*Are there other services out there that pay better than the people on central dispatch?
my log book:
Im a little confused with it. I have the typical one sold at truck stops with the log and inspection sheet on 1 page.
*What confuses me is the monthly summary sheet, 60 hr 7 day/ 70 hr 8 day and then the abc columns under each?
*I have the hours worked column filled out under the 60hr 7 day but not carried over to the abc columns.
*I imagine I will get busted for that correct?
*Also, if i have torn pages out of it do they frown on that as well?
Thanks for the help....

Look for brokers that don't normally post. I got a few by looking for good rates and then you build the relationship. Let them know that they can trust you and you won't cancel and show up late. Eventually they will start calling you. That is what worked with the people I work with. Good Luck and be safe.
michaelaland Thanks this. -
Not sure on the "summary sheet". I was always under the assumption that it is just a worksheet and not really a part of your log. However, with the DOT being mostly a-holes, I'm sure there is probably something they could get you for if they wanted to.
As for torn out sheets, I don't believe there is anything illegal about it. But if spotted by an officer, it will make them study the rest of your logs looking for anything they can find. I always turned my logs into loose leaf if at all possible. That way you can hand them ONLY the required last 8 pages. If you hand them a book with 29 days in it, they can go over that entire book looking for mistakes. And you won't be handing them your summary! -
Again I have to say it...How in all hell does one go into "business" not knowing the first Frucking thing about said business????
Yeah produce a log book to a law enforcement person with pages torn out...let us know how that goes.

I have news for you Spanky, if you are asked to produce your logs, you had better have that days log, the summary, and the last 8 days. And anything else they want to see.
This really gets just plain stupid.88 Alpha, icsheeple, HeWhoMustNotBeNamed and 1 other person Thank this. -
100 miles for $140??? Are you freaking insane? You couldn't get me drop my ramps for that. Hell even a tow truck wouldn't tow it for that.
weaselbagger, icsheeple and Pullin2 Thank this. -
Do yourself a favor and get loose leaf logs and a binder.

Thanks Karen O, Rustybolt and truckon, I went and got those loose leaf logs so I am all set now..... truckon, 1.40 a mile you dont think is alright? I was pleased to get that compared to what some of these companies are offering on central dispatch at 40-60 cents a mile. Unfortunately someone is taking those loads though, pretty sad. Im getting ready to hook up with a guy to haul his cargo trailers on my wedge at 2.25 a mile, pretty excited about that, then I will only have to deal with central dispatch cars on the way back.... appreciate the input from you all... @ slant6, I have read many of your posts in the past several months that I found this site and I just dont understand why you are on this message board, seems you are an angry person, I realize there are a lot of dumb questions that come up here, over and over again, so why dont you just ignore them instead of having to be so sarcastic and negative? I did do my research on the "business" but I am new and dont have everything completely figured out like you do. Im sorry for that and I am sorry if my questions bother you. I will say a prayer for you that you can find peace and compassion in your heart because I personally dont think it is healthy for you to get so upset all the time over questions people post on a message board forum.
clausland and otherhalftw Thank this. -
OK. Consider yourself ignored. Have fun with the blind leading the blind gig you have going. 1 year from now, I would like to hear if you are still in business.
Excuse me while I do a little research...I'm going to go into business building houses. Never done it before but if I go on a house building message board I should be good to go.
Have fun. I'm going to go play golf. -
God Bless you Slant.....
