Everything in the airline industry is like the trucking industry. The more hours you have the better airline and the better routes and bigger planes you can fly just like in trucking, the more years you have you can go to a company with better equipment, better/faster trucks, and better home time. Most of the guys right out of flight school go to a regional like jet blue or American Eagle (american airlines) and are lucky to make $17,000/year and they are gone all the time. The airline justifies it as "paid training" so you can build hours so you can move up to the 737/747/757/767/777 etc and move to a major ailine such as Delta or continental. One of the guys in my class in flight school had already spent $280,000 on flight training alone. You have to have a 4 year degree (any 4 year degree) to fly at an airline so he had the cost of college on top of the $280k. He recently got a job with a small airline and he is making $20,000/yr.
Again, it is just like trucking. There are more pilots than there are planes so the airlines can pay what they want and there will always be someone to fill that left seat. You start as a FO (first officer in the right seat) at a regional and most of those guys make $15 - $20/hr. It takes YEARS to become a captain and make money because the old timers aren't leaving any time soon. If I was 21, lived at home with my parents, had no bills, no wife or kid, then it wouldn't be a bad gig to fly around the country and just stay gone all the time (think OTR) but being 25, married, baby, bills, etc it just isn't worth it. I'm going to finish my private license and go to the local airport and rent a plane for a few hours and fly somewhere for a hamburger and fly back. That is good enough for me.
Go to this website http://www.airlinepilotcentral.com/ and look to the right and you'll see airline categories. Click on them and you'll see the different airlines and the pay scale for FO and Capt. Look at the regional guys then go to look at the cargo captains (fed ex, UPS). You would have a better chance at getting an insurance company to insure a 21 year old with a CDL who has 5 counts of vehicular manslaughter and 37 speeding tickets than becoming a cargo captain in under 20 years.

CR England will tell you that tuition is free but its about $2100.00 and the interest on that loan is 18% so you will pay about $4500.00. CR promise you good pay that is a bald face lie. Training pay seems to be better than drivers pay. The school is very fast past and a lot of smart guys flunked out. CR England will have you hungry and dirty in the middle of no where. If I were you I would stay in school and finish. If you want a break. I would recommend another profession.
