So another update, I went to orientation this past Tuesday it basically was about 8 hours of basic orientation. A lot of paperwork and computer learning. The orientation was more geared toward the incoming plant new hires however I was required to complete it also. We concluded the day with a plant tour.
The next 2 days consisted of my actual driver orientation and training. A lot of videos on Frito Lay policy and procedures and DOT rules and regulations. These 2 days consisted of about 8 hours each all of which I am being paid for. The final day consisted of a driving test and backing test. The driving and backing test was pretty indepth. You go out and drive for about 30 minutes to an hour and come back to the plant and you will perform several backs between trailers. You get a straight back, sight side back and a blind side back. Also they will set up a course with cones for you to manuver through and you will do a pre trip test.
Yesterday consisted of my first day of actual training. We went and did a drop and hook then came back to the plant and grabbed another load with 3 stops on it. The first stop was at another Frito Lay facility where we hand unloaded about 1200 cases after this we did 2 store deliveries then returned to the plant to finish the day. I am off today but will go back in with another trainer at 9 am tomorrow.
Overall Frito Lay seems like a really good company to work for. I talked to several drivers and most of them have been there for years. Most people have been really helpful and I have gotten a few phone numbers from drivers that told me to call them if I ever had any questions at all, so that is a huge plus. This job is really physical and you will earn your money but I actually like that aspect of it. The store deliveries aren't bad at all but the handtruck unloads will take some getting used to. The pay is definitely well above average so that is a huge plus and there are many good benefits here.
Just wanted to do a quick update and will do more as the time allows.jmz, Richierich76, runningman0661 and 2 others Thank this. -
So I am guessing you are close if not already finished training. Is everything going good for you? I know this is very tiring at first so I guess that explains no updates. Just wondered if the job has met your expectations so far?

Sorry for the long time away from this but I am dropping in with an update. Things are going well here at Frito Lay I actually enjoy the job. The schedule for me is very erratic, hence my being slow on the updates. I am on extra board since I am newer and don't have any seniority. They do keep me fairly busy. Basically about 2-3 days a week I will be awarded a run and the other days I am on call. The money is very good here like one week I only worked 3 days but still made about $1100 but on full weeks its easy to gross $1800 plus. The work is not easy and it is very physical but I am used to that already and I am becoming much quicker and more efficient. Everyone is friendly and helpful and you are treated pretty fairly here. I don't have any real complaints. I knew coming in the first year or so would be pretty rough until I build up some seniority then I could maybe have a more predictable schedule. Anyway I will keep popping in on this thread as time allows.

Also I did want to add I am home pretty much everyday. In the 3 months I have been here I have only had to layover 3 times, so that wasn't near as bad as I had imagined either. Plus staying in the hotel makes it a lot easier.
