FWIW I’ve been driving a long time. Never used a fridge or microwave. Just a ice cooler. During pandemic though certain things changed for me and I was eating fast food more, drinking and pigging out while at home. Put on 50 pounds! Back in February of this year decided to start fixing myself up proper. Got a Cobra 2500w inverter with my pilot points, Magic Chef mini fridge $80 and Magic Chef 1100w microwave $40 from Home Depot.

The inverter and fridge free float behind driver seat. They don’t move at all. Microwave is free float on top bunk. It’s pretty stout and I’ve got baskets up there so it’s confined to one side. Sometimes it slides two inches forward or back, no problems. Once in awhile I have to reset the plastic turner inside. I use the seat belt canopy for the top bunk so it all stays up there.

simple and cheap setup and works magnificently. I’ve estimated it’s been saving me about $60 a week. But the best and most amazing thing is it lets me eat healthy with no hassles! Whenever I need to lose weight I do lazy keto. Basically just low carb meals.

in case it helps anyone here’s what my food load out looks like:

Atkins frozen meals - about 8g carbs per meal
Healthy choice frozen meals - 10-20g carbs
Tillamook cheese snacks - 0-1g carbs
    String cheese 0-1g
Hillshire meat, cheese, cracker snacks - 10-15g, skip the crackers to cut it down to about 5g
Panino mozzarella wrapped in pepperoni/salami - 6g entire pack
Fajita beef or chicken packs - 6g entire pack
    Sugar free jello - 0g
Enlightened ice cream bars - 2g
Crack an Egg egg bites - 8g

drinks: Diet Coke Diet Pepsi diet root beer diet Sunkist, water, sparkling water, diet Snapple, Bang

On the weekends still have beer/whiskey and eat out

went from 265 in feb to 221 as if this morning. I know that’s more info then this thread calls for but maybe it can help.

upgrade to a Galanz 3:1 and you can actually bake and cook in your truck. Not just heat up microwave meals. ;)

I used to work in HVAC, and I am familiar with the acronym OEM from HVAC. I would like the right OEM strap for a Cascadia, so I ordered that strap. It costs me $95 total with taxes and handling charges. The microwave will cost about $50 as well. But I spend so much money on fast food, that both the strap and the microwave will pay out in one week. I briefly searched for the OEM strap on the internet myself, but I was not able to find it until you gave me that link. Thank you.

I never bothered to put a microwave in a semi-truck before. Since I have never put a microwave in a semi-truck before, I didn't know everything one had to know about having a microwave in a semi-truck before I created this thread. I learn things on a need-to-know basis.

My trainer had eleven years of experience when I got on his semi-truck, and he did not have a microwave on his semi-truck. I have driven as a team driver with about ten other teammates in my career, and none of them had a microwave on the semi-truck we drove. I have had several other truckers shuttle me around to pick up other trucks before in my career, and I don't remember any of them having microwaves either.

I am not a trainer any more. Before anyone says, "How did that happen", implying that I was removed from being a trainer due to competence, I will explain. When I started being a trainer, I did not have stomach ulcers. Eventually, I developed stomach ulcers, preventing me from drinking caffeine. Without caffeine, I cannot work as a team driver or a trainer, as the sleep I get with the truck rolling is both of too low quantity and too low quality for me to drive a full shift without caffeine. I can only do solo driving without caffeine. And I am now approximately a one and a quarter million miler. I now have eight years of experience driving a semi-truck.

I’ve been driving near 2 decades, always solo with my own sleeper. Never had a fridge, never had a microwave, never had a true wired-in inverter until this past February.

I’m just a minimalist by nature. Never had the slightest need and never wanted them or regretted it at all. Just decided to add all that on a whim because I have nothing better to do with my money rn except eat better.

I bought a 700 watt microwave and a strap when I was on hometime about two weeks ago. The microwave and strap have already paid out. The microwave is not just saving me money on food costs. The microwave also saves me money because I don't have to get reserved parking at truckstops nearly as much any more (because I don't need to go to truckstop to get food).

I wish I had put a microwave in my truck years ago. I highly recommend it.

Cheap little Walmart microwave will last a couple years. I have bought three of them over ten years. Never had one die, gifted one to a new driver when I was leaving that company, one is in the man cave and third one I left in the truck when I moved to operations. 120$ total for ten years. well worth it.
