Hello all, I have several questions about Knight Refrigerated (Squire), and I haven't seen them here on the forum yet. I guess I should give a little background first. I am a student that just graduated SAGE Trucking School, and am looking for a company to give me a chance to get some experience. So here are my questions.

    1. My orientation will be in Denver. Does that mean Denver will be my home base, as in that will be where I park the truck during home time?
    2. Is Knight Refrigerated a good company for training and to gain some experience?
    3. Does the trainer "ride" with you or do you drive team?
    4. I assume the trucks have a double bunk, since there will be two people in the truck.
    5. What all do they train you on? Such as coupling/uncoupling a trailer, adjusting trailer axles, driving conditions, NYC, etc.
    6. During training, if your trainer takes home time, do they put you up in a motel?
    7. Is the health insurance decent?

I can't seem to think of other questions right now. I know I could get these answers from a recruiter, but figured I would have a better chance getting a straight answer here. Thanks in advance.

    1. Ask Knight
    2. As good as any other.
    3. He rides with you for a while until he thinks you're OK, then you ride team.
    4. Yes, but you will have to put your bedding over his in the lower buck while he's driving.
    5. Yes, and so much more.
    6. You will probably be out with your trainer for 5 weeks, depending on how you do. Unlikely there would be home time involved in the training period.
    7. It's about average.

Did you find Sage-Denver to be good?

Best of luck to you....I can't answer for your company Knight...

.But when I started with KTL...There was only one bunk...The Boss didn't want us stopped ...couldn't see any reason for us to both be sleeping at once....Layed over for one night once in a motel... on our own dime....

I didn't realize what a good break it was when they let me go ...one day before the end of my probation..

I actually went to the SAGE in Cheyenne, WY. It left a lot to be desired by me. If I didn't get a federal grant to go to school, I would have complained. You can't really complain about free, right? They basically give you just enough to get the CDL, and even at that there should have been way more practice with backing and driving. We never coupled/uncoupled trailers (just explained how to), never adjusted anything. That is why I asked about the training at Knight, to see if I would learn the things that I feel I should have already been taught.

All CDL schools teach you enuf to pass the written & driving test for a CDL....you learn just enuf to become 'dangerous!':biggrin_25523:

The remainder of your training is from a ride-along trainer.

any good trainer will teach you everything you should know about the operation of the truck but don,t be afraid to ask. better to learn with him by your side than when you,re by yourself.
