Hey guys and Gals, I have many questions about living on the road. Thanks for the info!
I'm not nervous about it, I'm just curious. My training doesn't start till either the 2nd or the 9th of Feb.
Most of the questions were answered, if you could, help me out with the ones that were not answered.
I will be out with my trainer for 2 weeks at a time. How many days straight, will we most likely work? If we keep taking 10 hr reset/sleep (w/e you call it) can we keep driving indefinitely day after day for 12 days?
How many hours do you typically drive before you take a break?
Do you have to take a lunch too?
If were out on the road when he takes his 2 days off, will the company most likely put me in a hotel for the days off? (#### I hope...2 days sitting in a truck yikes)
Answered-How do most drivers do it with food? A-Depends, some cook, most eat out.
I will be with a trainer the first 6-8 weeks. Will we be eating/sleeping at the same time? Will we be getting more total miles than what he normally would?
Answered Taxes- If I live in one state and my company is in another, do I pay more income taxes somehow? A-So only taxed in my own state.
Answered-When I go to take a shower at a Truck Stop, do they give you towels or do I need to bring my own? Depending on the truck stop, you may get towels although they 'might' be used.
Answered-If were driving and I gotta take a piss, is it illegal to piss on the side of the road?
It's illegal and you should use a normal restroom or a bottle unless it's night time and you don't think you will get caught (hehe)
Answered -And lastly, do any of you do anything to keep in good shape? Planet Fitness black card. --Yeah, I think Ill just do pushups, squats and walk, before I go into a planet fitness. If i am on my own, I plan on bringing a few dumb bells.

My god man, this is not basic training. You'll find every answer from your trainer. And no they do not give you a free towel, there is one towel per day. So everyone is using the same towel for a day.

towel sharing lol... scarred for life
Lepton1 and White_Knuckle_Newbie Thank this. -
The better truck stops provide 2 towels, plus a wash cloth and a mat.
The smaller ones don't have anything, like most company terminals.
You can work every day for forever, if you do it right.
I usually drive 2-3 hours, then take a short break. A 30 minute break is now required somewhere in your driving day. Don't take it too early, or you will need to take another 30 along the way. And that could really hose your schedule.
Yes.
It is not legal to piss on the side of the road.
Animals can do it all day long, but we humans are a hazmat violation.
Do it at a truck stop, do it at a rest area. Do it in a bottle.
Just, don't do it between the wheels or on the ground.
It isn't really that difficult to pee in the correct area.
You really can stop when you need to take care of business.
And if you can't plan your trip with enough time to pee a couple times, there is something very wrong with either you or your company.White_Knuckle_Newbie, scottlav46, Longarm and 1 other person Thank this. -
Locke and scottlav46 Thank this.

It's only illegal to pee on the side of the road if you get caught. During the day I pee in rest areas and truck stops. At night when parking can be hard to come by, Ive been known to pull over on an extra wide shoulder or exit ramp to inspect those right side tires.
As for keeping in shape, Im fat but I try not to just accept it. I have a planet fitness black card. I try to workout when I'm at home and the black card also let's me use any planet fitness location in the country. I've been lucky several times on layovers that a planet fitness has been relatively close.Locke and scottlav46 Thank this. -

Taxes in mine you get taxes taken out where you live but can ask for a full refund in the state in which you work if you choose there is a form for it.
Like if you lived in Kentucky and worked in Missouri you gotta go get unemployment from the state of Missouri.
The last part was for when you leave the company.
Most truckers eat out.
You can eat on $16 a month if you go to stores & stock up.
I'd drive five hours then ethier find a spot to cook or get behind someone in a fuel island top off and eat my soup while I'm waiting forging a thirty. Bout like everyone else does that pulls in behind you with 4 open pumps.Locke Thanks this. -
16 bucks a month, huh? Are you rationing out top ramen?
americanmadetrucker, White_Knuckle_Newbie, bottomdumpin and 5 others Thank this. -
