Hello all,
Seeming how this is more of a generalized question and the fact I didn't know where to exactly put it, I thought here would suffice.
Well, I'm 21 years old, and I reside in Downstate NY. I will be going to truck driving school, here shortly, to get my CDL Class-A License, with all of the endorsements; therefore, by the time I start to apply to what I'm about to list off, I will have no prior driving experience.
Just to back track for a minute....I have done all of my research regarding OTR companies, and I have the one's I wish to apply with ready to go. I am just trying to further explore my options, and see what else is out there, while I still have a little bit of time.
I have been doing some research into some local companies; I've been looking at: Excavation and Septic Cleaning companies (ie: hauling equipment, driving a Septic truck, Dump Truck), Construction companies (ie: hauling equipment, driving Dump Trucks, etc), Fuel/Propane companies, Oil Field (ie: water truck driver), etc.
I was wondering what my possibilities of getting jobs for these types of jobs, with my age and lack of experience. My will and motivation to do it is there, I just don't know how great my chances are. Ideally, I'd like to haul fuel. From my research, I see that it can be difficult (not impossible) to do.
I do plan to go out there and talk to these companies face-to-face; I wanna show them my eagerness and motivation to work!
Synopsis: I'm just wondering what my chances are for doing such work (Fuel, hauling Heavy Equipment, Septic Truck, Dump Truck, Water Trucks, etc) were, given that I am 21 years old, and will have no prior driving experience?
Well, any and all sound advice is accepted; thank you!

I am fairly new to truck driving, I have had my Class A CDL w/hazmat 18 months. Driving OTR for 16 months. My experience in looking for any local job or working in the Oil tanker sector they want you to have at least 1 year OTR experience and sometimes their insurance requires 2 years OTR. Good Luck!

The odds aren't the highest, but it's not unheard of. Just apply... the worst they can do is say no.

I will never say you won't get hired but your chances with gasoline are slim to none. But the only way you'll know for sure is if you get out there and find out fore yourself. I have seen drivers get jobs when you think it's impossible. Don't let anyone stop you from looking. Just get the information from the horses mouth and not from other sources that may not know.

So many newbies want local work straight out of school.Unless that local company has a training program odds of you finding a local driving job is very slim.

Get out and beat the bushes....go talk to the local folks....fuel companies/food-service companies/LTL companies are gonna be the best paying local jobs...each has it's own good AND bad...I did the food-service thing for over 30 years with the same compnay....did all right too, retired at 62 in 2011 and been having a ball since then...it's all about finding your niche....if you don't mind physical work , early hours , and delivering in some "not-so-good-areas" of town sometimes , then food service is the ticket...I can't really comment on the others , but some of these other local hands can..Good Luck....
