Was wondering why millis charges 500.00 up front? I know swift didn't want anything up front, just eating money while you train. Was also wondering if its a good school. Does bankruptcy have a problem getting you girded on with them? And is swift all that bad? I live on i75 in ky and you won't go two miles without seeing there trucks on the road. I know I posting a lot of questions, but I'm just trying not to make a bad decision.. THANKS.

I don't know for sure. However I believe they ask for some money up front for you to show them that you are making a commitment to accept their training and work for them after they provide you with that training. Swift is a CDL factory. They have so many drivers they don't really care if you stay or not. They are willing to allow 100 people to go thru their school in hopes only a couple actually stay. Millis doesn't just accept anyone. I'm kinda partial cause I work for millis but I would say their school is top notch. You actually train in the exact same equipment you will be using. Alot of schools will train you in a single axle day cab truck to make it easy just to get a CDL and then throw you in to a full size truck with a sleeper and basically send you out to the wolves. As far as bankruptcy I have no idea. I don't believe most schools do a credit check. Millis didn't when I hired on. Now if you were going to lease a truck (which I strongly suggest you stay away from) they will probably do a credit check then. Millis doesn't do lease program. You are strictly a company driver. I chose millis for many reasons. I am extremely happy I did. Lastly. Yes swift is that bad. Not one swift driver I have talked to has said good things about being there.

I already have been accepted, just got to come up with the money. I wished they went farther west. I just looked at central refridge and they have so many deductions you would owe them money each week. I guess if I decide to do this I will go with millis. Everything looks pretty good. I like the looks of they're trucks. Do you know if they pay for any meals. And what about per diem? Dot hey offer it and is it worth taking?

I believe the up front money is to confirm your true commitment. Please dont use Swift and Millis in the same sentence. If you can go to MTI, pay the money and you wont regret starting with a good company.

I went through MTI I had to scrape the 500 together as well. Ive been by myself for 4.5 months and average $800 a week or more bring home. Your not gonna make that at a quarter a mile with swift and no bonuses. Get the 500 you wont regret it.

You pay for your own food while at school with millis. However you are provided a van to use that you take to the hotel every night to go to the store get something to eat do laundry etc.

Does anyone know what kind of motel they use in Trenton,oh? I really appreciate the good words about millis. Makes me feel a lot better. I got the 500.00 now, wonder how muh straight money I need to take with me for eating and stuff? I also seen on one post how some companies make you buy locks and stuff is that normal? How much money do you need to keep on you when your solo for scales, tolls etc? THANKX..

I never took per diem. Years ago I was told it hurts your Social Security earnings. Even as a company driver I used a trucking accountant. Using my logs I counted each night I slept on the road. Sent it to the account along with my other deductions. I got money back every year.

I've been accepted to MTI and will start in on June 10th. I am very interested in your use of the trucking accountant. I know there will be a lot of deductions that someone who specializes in trucking will know that others may not.

My question is are there specific companies or accountants that you would recommend?
