I am on the Gulf Coast just getting into trucking and I know that teaming with someone is a difficult task. When I was Navy and Army I knew how hard it was rooming with someone.
Now for me I get along better with women a majority of the time but I've never drove a truck nor seen a woman drive and I have been hearing a lot of horror stories from guys who have teamed with women I've also heard a lot of horror stories with guys who teamed with guys.

    Is solo better?

I also forgot to mention this is something I am planning to do for 2 maybe 3 years and I've also heard stories that depending on where your located and what ya pull depends on what you make.

I've heard some drivers say they make .75 cents a mile solo and other say .25. I've also heard people say teams can make 2.00 a mile and other make .50

You're in a good location to pull tankers. Can make $60K+ pulling tankers as a solo driver because accessorial pays + milage pays are really good. It's common for new cdl grads to make over $60K the first year.
    Trimac Transportation
    SVTN
    CTL Transportation
    Schneider Bulk
    Tidewater Transit
    Superior-Carriers
    McKenzie Tank Lines
All the above hire new cdl grads from 160 hr. cdl schools.

I will chime in for you, as far as me, I have Teamed with a man and a woman . I also decided to go with a man to Mentor me when I first started, the reason I couldn't get along with my Mentors (I had three men Mentors) was because a lot of Men are a lot different in driving. Me myself , I'm more cautious and take extra time backing or going through construction zones, I never go 75 even if the truck will. My best friend however is a woman and Teamed with me, she wasn't like me and was not as cautious lol, but, she liked to stop and shop and we both took a while doing make up and hair etc when we would shower lmao. So, if you don't mind getting with someone who has any of this and you don't mind the one time of month that you would have to stop more because of women issues then you would be fine, but if you want to run hard then Teaming with a woman may not be for you. Good luck.

I don't mind stopping and shopping or seeing the sites. I was going to work that into my 3 hour down time and 10 hour down time.

I was just told the other day by a driver trainer that he has had men and women both in his truck who was either bad on hygiene, they kept the truck dirty or he said he has had 5 different men and 2 women who had maturbation issues. He said he only was upset with one of the chick's cuz she also had a hygiene issue but he said all the men wouldn't bath and 2 he put out his truck.

Dunno how true it was but he said if it wasn't for his extra money he would roll solo.

I have been looking into knight and have heard good things about them that I can be out 4 days and hone 3 making the same money I would being out 6 days and off 1 and hone 3 days every couple months. Any thoughts on Knight?

My thoughts ? The pay was good and you can request daily pay or weekly . But, communication sucked, some obviously don't know how to look at the computer because I rejected a load one time going to Chicago and even talked to them about it because I hired on to run Texas etc (in the middle but I can't remember what they called it) and he agreed and supposedly took the load off me. Well, they sent me another load going to some dog food place in Kansas I believe and I accepted , when I got there I was having a hard time finding it so I called trying to get better directions to because I could see it but could not figure out how to get to it. After about thirty minutes I found how to get in but then they wanted to know when I had dropped the load for Chicago (wtfh , are you kidding me). On top of this my dad passed away on April 2015 while I was in St Louis Missouri so I was upset crying but managed to call them to let them know , all they said was sorry and can you take the load to our yard in Kansas City ? I drove to Kansas City and when I got there I thought they would let me dead head back to Texas, they didn't and didn't even offer a way back so my mother drove to get me and after she was already half way there they then asked in the Kansas City Terminal if they were getting me a rental car to go back , I said nobody offered anything and my mom was on her way. With everything going on I left my information for the loads I already did and needed to turn in at my house in East Texas and my dad lived in West Texas , I called to ask if they could help to get my pay until I could get back home but they said they couldn't do anything . I never got paid for my last three loads and didn't go back to them after they left my mom to come get me.

He's just romanticizing the job. He'll learn soon enough that that 3 hour 'down time' = unpaid work most of the time.

    O
Oh, I wanted to clarify , I would maybe not have rejected load knowing what I know now but at that time I was told I could give a list of places I would want to run and was not forced dispatch. I don't know , I like to please everyone but in trucking I've learned that's not possible lol.

We made pretty dang good even shopping or eating at the TA (steaks &potatoes ) and showering every night. I'm not trying to sound a b or anything but I think you can do this job and still enjoy yourself . My uncle had a rush mentality and every load we were there the day before or about 12 hours before and just sat. He would stop when it was his time to drive and sleep for about four hours or stop at Lisa's Truck Stop in New Mexico to ear their delicious Tamale plate, but, then he wanted to rush the rest of the time and even stopping doing that we would still be early . I couldn't handle it because (I love my uncle don't get me wrong ) he is older and very inpatient , he was not able to get in and out good anymore so I would get fuel or clean trailer out etc and he would just get so mad if I didn't do in his time frame . He constantly wanted me to pass others and stay 75 and threatened to hit me if I touched the white line( at one time he did by throwing a burrito at me because I slowed down and told me this wasn't fn Swift and if I wanted to do that to back to Swift ( lol its funny now but at the time I was so freaking stressed by him). I couldn't keep dealing with him yelling, screaming , cussing and calling me names so it lasted a month .
