Can anyone tell me how to get the CDL permit in Florida? I've been accepted to a company training program and I need to obtain the permit to set an academy start date. I live in Orange county and the information from the DMV website is beyond confusing or non existent. So my questions are:

    1) What documents do I need before I go to the DMV?

    2) Is there a fee for the permit?

    3) Do I need to schedule an appointment/is it better to schedule an appointment?

Any help with these questions would be more than appreciated! :biggrin_25514:

here is a link to the CDL manual. even though its from 2006, only the prices would be different, not the contents.

    http://www.dmv.org/fl-florida/cdl-handbook.pdf

ok, the same exact books i use in class, have the prices on the first 1 or 3 pages. this book does not have the prices.

take at least $100 with you that day. you won't need all of that, but you want to be covered.

up here, its generally $60. for the states i deal with.

like i said, this IS the book every state uses, only the state name changes on the front cover, and some local state laws as well are included for each state.

    a couple of other thoughts...........

you might need the DOT medical card first............and do not laminate it

and your SS card cannot be laminated either.

"up here", the DOT card AND SS card are required for the permit to be issued.

I paid $85 in KY. Included fee for taking the road test when time comes. I would imagine the other states are along the same costs.
