unless you are diagnosed with sleep apnea... there's no test done on a d.o.t. physical that checks for sleep apnea. its companies that are requiring the test but i won't be suprise if the govnerment doesn't step in and make it a d.o.t. requirement.

Since you did it on your own, keep your mouth shut around LEO or the company. This is a prime situation of availing yourself of your 5th ammendment right against self incrimination. And don't even let anyone know you took the test, no matter the outcome. If you get into a situation, and an attorney finds out you had the test and were not using anything to correct a problem, your rear end is gonna feel like you were just given a barbed wire enema. But you do need to take stock in what the results were and find out what you need to do about it, before any mandates come along.

There is a question on the D.O.T form asking about sleep apnea and instructions to the physician to look for signs of sleep apenea . Some physicians consider BMI or neck size a reason to recommend the sleep study .

It's all ''verbal''.All you have to do is keep your mouth shut and answer all the ''questions'' correct.Do not give any signs of sleep issues, like Cowpie mentioned.

The only sign is the BMI as Rick mentioned. If your BMI does not meet the ''standard'' of the DOT,the doctor may send you in for a Sleep Test.

You will recieve a 90-365 day medical card until you complete sleep tests and the Dr can see the results..It is more like a 90 day medical card until tests are complete..

If you have the sleep disorder then you have to buy the machine and then you get a 2 year card. The machine also has a cumputer and knows if you are USING IT.!!!!...:biggrin_25523:

This whole sleep apnea thing is really a solution in search of a problem. I have not doubt whatsoever, that some experience sleep difficulties, but I have also looked into how these tests are done and, frankly, they are somewhat rigged in favor of the folks who have a vested interest in making money off of this. Anyone can get a study done, at home, for a fraction of the price, and you are not required to ONLY lie on your back in a strange bed like the sleep centers, being woke up by some tech every time you get into a sleeping position that they don't like. They almost make this skewed in favor of them without any real desire to determine if the candidate actually has a problem or not. And they charge an insane price for the test. For an 8 hr sleep at a center, almost $400 an hour charge. Subtracting the tech's pay, the actual use of equipment, and clean bed sheets, that leaves a lot of change that is heading to someone's pocket. This is the best scam the medical community has come up with yet, and they have convinced the government to be their strong arm in making this windfall.

Al Capone couldn't have dreamed up a better way to strong arm folks out of their money.

With an AHI of 11 you have mild sleep apnea. It must be under 5 to sleep without the machine. When you get your physical you will be asked this question. Answer honestly. Its not in your best interest to lie.
. Yes you must use the machine and you will get a 1 year card.

Sleep apnea is very real...nevermind the conspiracy theories.

Since you haven't been officially diagonsed or had an "offical" sleep study done, I figure you can. Get through your physical no problem. Since you know your ahi is 11 you are ding yourself a disservice not getting treated
