As an example, when driving the last mile or two before you get to the shipper/consignee, observe whats available, such as a place to eat, do laundry, grab a few groceries. Wifey could easily do a load of laundry while you deliver your load ahalf mile away. At 3 am when fueling, one of you could grab a quick shower. Your truck is getting serviced, take a walk around the parking area. Always have your diddy bag ready with clean clothes so not to waste time running to the shower. I've seen showers at shippers.consignees but not that often. Keep can goods and wheat thins in the truck because at times that's what your dinner will be !

Time management will come with experience as you develope a routine where you try to get things acomplished as you go along.

Helps once you get used to sleeping in a moving vehicle.

Had a unique team constantly hauling Haz Waste from NJ to an incinerator in LA where one team member lived at each end. they would deliver in LA, drop off the local man while the other went to load their backhaul the do the opposite on their return to NJ week after week.

    It didn't last forever.

    OkieDokie405 and TX2Day Thank this.

There's a subforum here on Melton....where you can learn more:

    Melton

It's been a while since someone posted there.

That can be a good thing; less forum complaining might mean a decent carrier....:dontknow:

Once you get outside of the bigger cities you will find some super Walmart stores are the better supermarkets and you can find some of them are right off the interstate. I generally stop twice a week and if Im in a hurry can get in and out of the most convenient ones in 30 minutes. With some scouting Im sure you can do that at many regular supermarkets too especially as a team cause you can leave someone with the truck in case it needs to be moved. I do all my grocery shopping outside of major cities and during the week.

Once you complete training and are assigned a truck, trucking offers a lot of autonomy. So long as you manage your clock (ELD) and get to pickups and deliveries on time, you will probably rarely hear from any boss other than to get assigned your next trip and that will likely just be a message over your ELD.

Run hard when you need to, manage your clock, make solid trip plans (to include parking), keep a calendar for important dates, keep a positive outlook and trucking can be pretty easy and fairly stress free. Fail to do any of those things and it can be miserable. There are many miserable drivers.
