Hello everyone, long time lurker, new poster here. I have been interested in becoming a truck driver for a long time now. However I have one black mark on my record. I realize there is already a post for individuals with similar issues, but due to the fact that I have not seen anyone else with similar circumstances as myself, I hope you will forgive my starting a new thread. My issue is that I have a conviction for a second degree misdemeanor on my record. That misdemeanor is for a minor in possession of alcohol. this has been the only issue I have encountered, or been convicted of, and at the time i was convicted of it (2007), it contained no driving record penalties. So my question is, do I have a chance at a trucking job, with a minor in possession of alcohol conviction, given as how my driving record was unaffected? PS., I have never been convicted of a traffic offense. and if it matters, i was not arrested for the offense in question, just given a ticket by an officer.

Just be honest on any job application,I don't think this will be a big issue being it's 5 years old and did not involve any driving offence.
I had one very old DUI but had no trouble getting a job,it was well over the 10 year old mark that most want to see,I also had a related license suspension (SR22) and it was no issue.
You have a clean MVR and no felonies so I wouldn't worry about it.

Thank you sir, I have been honest about the conviction, and have been approved for other jobs not involving the operation of a motor vehicle since then. I was mainly concerned if this would prevent me from being able to drive for a major carrier, the type that would hire a straight out of CDL school hopeful trucker, or a non-major carrier that would hire out of a school, but my situation is that i will be paying out of pocket for CDL school and am questioning if it would be a sound investment, or if, with my prior conviction, I am SOL.

Hey-Just my idea-As a precaution call a few of the major carriers and ask them. You don't have to tell them who you are.Is there a way to get that expunged since you were a minor? My stepson got his "threats and intimidation" charge i brought against him expunged. He's in a very prestigious university graduate school now.If i talk to a friend of mine who recruits in the very near future i'll ask her.Whatever you do i hope it works out the best for you.Take care.Brian

Thank you very much for your response, however I was not a minor when i got this charge. I now see how my previous statement could be misleading, I was 19 years old upon receiving the citation, so I was too young to possess alcohol, however I was not under 18. Ironically enough, I actually got the charge visiting a freind at college.

Thank you for your response, I have not called many actual trucking companies, mainly due to the fact that judging by what I have read here in the forums, recruiters are not the most trustworthy folks, so I was hoping/curious, that some more established and trustworthy members of the trucking industry might have some answers.

Ahhhh yes, thanks for the memories. My "Violation of the 1935 Beverage Act" was in 1976. It's a bigger deal now. Back then a lot of people got those. Exponged from record at 21. I think you'll be fine. Good luck to you

Probably won't be that big of a deal. My past is much worse than that, coupled with 4 years of no employment before I started driving and I still found a job. Some might turn you down but if you keep trying someone will give you a shot.
