Personally, I would advise you to learn welding. I had about 20 good years of trucking but it has became nothing more than a transitional, wallyworld type job based on hours gone versus hours compensated.Blame it on mega trucking led by and alliance known as the ATA for taking all the pride out of trucking. They won't let up until there is a foreignor in every truck.

Yea I know it will be a pay cut but once I am financially stable I will be able to afford a pay cut. But depends on what the future holds. I like RE west but my family and kids are more important. We will see what happens

Really you have to decide how many hours a day you want to work, how hard you want to work and go from there, some local companies will push you 12-14 hours a day. It's a juggling act to balance work, money, and quality home time in trucking. Good luck and thank you for your service.

I appreciate the replies. I have gotten some ideas for local companies. The company I am with now is awesome. I mean being out 7-10 days and home for 3 is not a bad deal compared to a lot of other companies. My daughter is young. Don't get me wrong, the work is fine. And the first week was the hardest for being away from my kids. I actually tried to quit lol but my wife reminded me why I am doing this and that our little family is counting on me and makes me realize that I have to wear my big boy pants for several months until our financial situation gets a lot better. No, OTR is not going to be my career and that's for sure but for now, it works. After about 4-5 months I will start applying into local companies until one decides to pick me up. From everything I have read and seen, there are a lot of local truck driving opportunities in my area and should not be too hard to land one. Either way, it will work out for me and my lil family. But I have to be the man and suck it up for now and make money and enjoy gods view. Then I will apply, land a local job and then be home with my family and be happy knowing I did the right thing to provide for my family and to give them stability. I am lucky that my wife supports me and stands behind me cause I know a lot of drivers don't have that. Now if my said she couldn't handle it anymore, I would quit on the spot and be home but she is not like that. She wants best for us just like I do and I know with gods direction, I will buy my time for a few months and then be local and be home every night. God bless and thanks guys
