I am considering signing on with CMLS but I am wondering if what they have up on their website in true. I would greatly appreciate any facts that any driver who is leased onto them can give me.
1. Do they really pay the bobtail and liability insurance on your tractor?
2. There is no detention mentioned. Do the shippers/receivers pay detention? I know that loads will be going to grocery warehouses and detention can be ridiculous at those places.
3. Are their trailers well-maintained?
4. Any info on the rates? I'm guessing that the shipments from Cargill's is pretty decent but what about the loads not from their plants?
5. They claim no forced dispatch but are there repercussions for not taking loads?
Any information would be helpful. Thanks

Never worked for them but I can tell you that nothing is free. They might pay for bobtail and liability insurance on your tractor but that is reflected in whatever % of gross you're getting.
As far as forced dispatch, you're a contractor, not a company driver so there technically shouldn't be any repercussions for not taking loads. But if you're known to take a lot of time off and always pass on loads, you'll become the last person they call when they get a good load. If they need someone ASAP, why would they call the guy who always says no?NavigatorWife Thanks this. -
I don't work for them either, but I see their trailers just about every day in my area. Trailers look to be in excellent condition.
Thing that bugs me, is They are ALWAYS in a hurry---constantly speeding. I go the speed limit...and these guys blow by me like I'm sitting on blocks....I would think there is a reason for that (and not a good one). -
I've never leased on to them, but have pulled their loads as an independent. I can say this, I'm sure you wouldn't have to wait on loads from their plant near as long as I had to. Sometimes 14 hours or more. I figured out to go in to load a few hours from their "drop dead" time. The last minute they could load you and still run legal. My rates their were good, so if your getting a good percentage, the money might be ok. I never had much dock time delivering. That said DONT BE LATE. However some of the places you deliver, there may be a lot of breakdown of product so that takes a while with the lumpers. Hope this little bit helps

Thank you for replying but I am hoping to hear from someone who is currently, or has recently, driven for Cargill's.

2.) Any detention pay that Cargill recieves is given to the driver. 100% of it.
3.) Trailers are required to have an annual inspection every 90 days to ensure everything is working properly.
4.) Cargill pays percentage, 72% for those leased with a tractor only, averages to be $2500/week take home!
5.) Non force dispatch is true, no repercussions that I'm aware of for not accepting the loads they send you. -
