I am going to have to find a company to drive for to finish my training. I have found a small company(100 trucks) that runs the south west, but I am being advised to go with a large company for better training. I would like to have some of you folks that have been in this a while to let me know what you think. I was going to go with a big company for my school and decided that I would get my training a a local college so I wouln't be in debt from the start. This is how I found the smaller company, they offer almost the same benefits as the larger companies. So what do you think?

Doesn't matter how big the company is. It matters how good there training is. ask around and talk to there drivers without letting them know you are looking to do this.

Boy do I ever disagree with that . Many have posted here to stay away from company training . The risk of not being able to fulfill your obligation and getting billed for thousands of dollars is too great and too many have posted it happened to them . It has also been posted many times to go with smaller companies when possible .

It's also true the bigger it is the more KY you'll need . :biggrin_2551:
(Every time I write KY I think of the old lady in the hospital that complained to the nurse about the terrible taste that Kentucky jelly had ! :biggrin_25510: )

My advice would be for the smaller company. Some of the trainers I have seen at the larger companies have only been driving six months. And as one has already said here, the bigger the company, the bigger the jar of vaseline you will need.

For those of you that have been sniffing to much diesel exhaust fumes. lets make this simple. It dose not matter the size of the company, it matters the quality of there training. Some big companies have great training others don't same for small ones. Don't believe just because it's small that there training is anything to talk about. You also have to take in to account that a small company is much more likely to go under then a big one. They do it all the time with out warning. I bet the arrow drives never saw it coming.

For what it's worth. Go with the 100 truck company. Personally I've never seen or found a large company that was worth a #### when it came to training drivers and I don't care which ones you are talking about. I started driving for a small company (40 trucks) and would put my training against any doing it today. As for small companies going under faster than big ones depends on whose the better manager. Tell you one thing though there's more small companies out there than big ones. Course I'm prejudice as hell when it comes to a big company. Plain fact I won't work for one period. Really doesn't matter anymore since I'm retired but I wouldn't personally waste my time with the so called "big boys". Hell, according to the newspaper Arrow was the biggest trucking company in Oklahoma. Look where they went and I figure there will be more to follow. Just my opinion and like I said I'm prejudiced.
