If you want a pre-nup agreement to protect you you must get one done by a real lawayer familiar with your situation and your state laws. You shouldn't buy a discount parachute if having it save your life is important.

IMO, doing OTR while married is starting a countdown to divorce.

true, about the lawyer, i never hinted to "do it yourself" for something that important......and by the way, a parachute only has to work....ONCE.......

The word lawyer and marriage just doesn’t go together very well either in the beginning or the end!
If the woman is not worth giving half your assets to she’s not worth marrying be careful and pick wisely my friend!

It’s human nature to think, “ what am I getting out of the situation”. It’s akso the root cause of divorce. If both put the others interests, well being first. It will work. It’s that simple. If You truly love someone, you will put their interests, including the effect of your actions on them, first, before your own.Anything less is not love. It’s something that goes against self preservation human nature. It has to work both ways. It’s not easy at times. Takes years to realize true motives, and put others first. But the rewards are great. Main thing is, don’t get married till your ready to sacrifice, and try to choose someone that is also committed to your interests. Put each other first, and most problems take care of themselves, or don’t crop up in the first place. It’s not easy, it’s a choice.

I never walked down that aisle. Back in the 70s, I was engaged to a girl who was the daughter of a low-level Lockheed Exe. This was back when they were building the L1011's at Palmdale. I even had a chance for a job after my discharge working for Lockheed. She was a California gal born and bred, I lived by the motto you can take the country boy out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the boy. We mutually decided to end it. To this day some odd 40 years later I still don't regret that. Some people are just not meant to be married, I'm one of them!
