    Hi there

Been reading A LOT !!! I have some questions that I have seen a lot of different answers too, so I might as well ask.

How many miles can you legally drive in 7 days?

Middel age driver clean driving record, what can you make on average in the first year starting out OTR? Or should I ask that question for weekly or monthly??

How do you go shopping for a company to drive for before you start driving school? Please post some web links if you can?

What kind of questions do you ask companies before you go to work for them?

    Thank you for your help,

    Bob

    3000-3100

    35k - 40k

Surf the net and pick a company that suits your needs.

Questions well if you don't see it in print or on a document it's subject to change at anytime. Recruiters will tell you pretty much anything to get you in.

and this will be the first wrong answer....

It all depends on the area you run in. What are the speed limits? 55? 65? 75? 80? Do you stricly do nothing but drop & hook? Do you live load? Live unload? Any waiting time that will dock your clock?

There are times I log over 4000 miles a week legally.... Then there are times I only log 1500 miles a week legally....

    Longshot64 and HD_Renegade Thank this.

You are going to run anywhere from 0-3500 as a new driver. 3500 being a driver that is good. An experienced driver can do 4200 a week. Your best bet is going to be to steer clear of the mega-carriers. Here is a site that may help you:

Take your time, the more effort you put in the better your results are going to be. Pretty much any mega-carrier will give you a job or pre-hire. If you have a good record and no felonies then I urge you to find a decent smaller company. Your chances of success will be much greater. Welcome to the forum and good luck to you. Oh yeah, and like the other guy said, DO NOT BELIEVE THE RECRUITERS. They get paid as long as they can get you to show up for orientation. That doesn't mean you are hired either!

Thank all of you for the answers.

I am sure this is a hard question to asnwer, but what does someone make a week on average?

A little info on why I am asking, I make over 60k a yr, money is not everything, but if I am going to do something (OTR) that I have been interested in for 30 years, I just need to be able to make enough money to pay my bills. I like being out on the road, and to see different places too. Not married, and no kids. I am free to do what ever I want to do.

    Thank you,

If you have a really good year you maybe able to do half that! There is no way I would give up that job to be a driver! You may want to think about this move!

All very accurate information above (second two posts). 500 miles a day can be done, providing you have the time to drive and not sitting at a customer waiting on a load.......so many different types of trucking it would be hard to nail.

You have a great affordable community college in Smithfield, but it would drive everyday......maybe you have some kin you could stay with in that area?

I am really tired of doing what I am doing and want out. I have thought of OTR on and off for a long time.

BTW you are from Deland FL? I was just in Deltona for Christmas, my father lives down there.

Smithfield is like 4 or 5 hours east of me. I am in Western NC. I think that there is a SAGE school a little over an hour (Spindale, NC) from me, and I have some friends less then an hour from Charolett NC too, so I could go there too.

Yep! Actually Deleon Springs, (north of Deland) but no one knows where the hell that is! My mom and brother live in Deltona. Deltona is where most of the new yorkian puertaricans all have migrated to. It's gone from wilderness to hood in ten years!
