On Monday I'm going to be talking to about 5-6 different recruiters and was wondering what are some things I should be asking?

    So far I have...
    Fleet age, automatics available, etc.
QoL equipment on truck (APU, microwave, etc.)
    Home time
    Orientation/training/solo pay
    Cost of refresher course
    Pet policy
    Idling policy

    What else?

I pulled a list of about 5 pages worth of question from the trucking truth forum to ask recruiters. It is very comprehensive and helped a lot. Just go to truckingtruth.com and put it questions to ask recruiters in the search.

www.otrdriving.com has a list of 100 questions to ask recruiters as well.

One thing I did after asking a lot of questions on here and throughout my research was to find the 5-10 things that a very important to you and use those as your main criteria for selecting a company. One thing I have noticed throughout my research is that those who fail or hate their company is because they tried to make the company fit what they wanted instead of finding the company that fit them.

My important crieria were the following:

    Home weekends
    Newer model trucks
    APU equipped
Space for refrigerator unless otherwise equipped
Midwest regional (no NE cities or NYC)
    Privately owned
    No mandatory per diem
    No forced dispatch
Steady miles (get their 10 week average and last years avg)
    Dry van

Also, don't take what they tell you as gospel. Ask your questions, listen to what they have to say, do your research on the company, and move forward from there. If you have a clean record and experience, you are in control of the conversation. They need you more than you need them.

Keep it in perspective; you're applying to drive trucks, not to be CEO of a Fortune 500 company.

    Here's one.

Look him (or her) straight in the eye and ask...

Is everything you are telling me the absolute truth?

I'll bet most would look away before answering that question.

Well yeah, but I mean we basically live in our trucks, we have the right to ask about it.

You can hear it in their voice, if you listen.
