This is funny, the C13 & C15 ACERT pre-2007 did NOT use EGR. They use a twin turbo setup for the EPA solution rather than an EGR like Detroit, Cummins, and Volvo. You don't want any Cat engine utilizing EPA 2007 mandates which is typically found in 2008 model year trucks.

    LBZ Thanks this.

This! To the op, if you are looking at a C12, the production ended on those in late '02 early '03 for on highway trucks & they did NOT have any sort of emission related items like EGR & were SINGLE turbo. The last may have had a catalytic converter exhaust, but that has surely been changed out by now anyway.

The C13 were twin turbo ACERT & the twin turbo set up was for emissions. It was NOT an EGR set up in the terms of having to replace a valve/coolers etc.

The ACCERT is basically solonoids that controled an actuator which varied the timing of valve events;. We have a 2001 6NZ most reliable motor ever and a 2005 C15 Acert least reliable motor ever.

-Problems were that the Variable Valve Actuator (VVA) housings broke and sent pieces of metal througuht the valve train, sometimes taking out the cam and putting holes in the head. (cost us $13,000)
-Also problems with the wiring harness to the VVA's and solonoids.
-Also problems with the low oil pressure sensors for the VVA's.
-Also problems with the fasteners that secured the VVA housings inside the head...they pulled out.

They upgraded you to 525?? I have an 05 rated for 430 earthstopping hp and was told that they can't alter it. I do hit mid 7's so economy isn't really an issue with me.

That was for RV and fire trucks. Still only had 1650 torque. EU flash is 500/1750. Many out there with modded files. I have used the PDI and EU flash and PDI got a fraction better mileage.

The c13 can be pre DPF/DEF if built in 06, however, its not pre emission per se. It is an acert (2 turbos). The acerts do have egr, but it's internal tubing and doesn't have an egr valve like the other makes.
The c13, according to a mechanic friend, has a problematic plastic oil bypass valve in the oil pump that breaks and causes loss of oil pressure. (Ask me how that got brought up!)
I replaced my 06 c13 in my 07 Pete with a c12 and love it.

Don't do the RV flash if you run heavy, it will de-rate.
