I am a newbie here after browsing the forum for some time, so I have some questions.
I have been oilfield trucking for 10 years, same company, hydrovac, vac and water truck.
10 years means very good job security, but i think it's time to move on, i have wanted to run long haul for a long time, here's why, on my current job, i need to work 30 days straight to clear $6,000, that's because we took a 50 percent paycut and we won't get that pay raise back for another 2 years, and that's IF i get 30 days straight, if you haven't lived under a rock in western Canada you would know the oil patch sucks right now. In the last 2 months iv'e gotten 5 days work, so ya it's bad, fortunately i have some money saved, but it's gonna run out soon and i need to get out of the house, i am guessing the oilpatch will be slow for another 2 years.
So anyway, it's not so much about the money, I just want to get OUT of the oilfield and do something else, I only want to do long long haul van to start and maybe only Canadian runs as i am from Canada.
So my main question is, how much can i expect to earn? It's a valid question because jumping ship from a job I had for 10 years is not easy to do, so it has to be worth the pay at least.
My bills are $4000 a month (includes morgage payment) and please don't bash me on why my bills are so high, it is what it is, so i need to make at least 4000 a month, is that even possible? for long haul dry van full time?
I only need to clear 4000 a month because i have a side business that requires two hours of my time a day, a digital business, which is done from my phone or laptop and that gives me a little extra savings money.
But eventually i will want to make money, so does any long haul pay more than 5000 a month? I'm talking clear money after taxes.
I will be watching for advice and replies, don't mind my grammar, thanks in advance.

Do you have any RGN experience?
Seems like hauling oversize is the way to make money -

Maybe post in the Canadian forum as well. There's quite a few Albertan and BC members on here that might have some insite on some of the specifics you're asking.

Sometimes that's where you get the most useful experience.

Tough to make that kind of money doing dry van. 40 cents a mile or less is common. Deck work pays more, I know some grossing $80k doing that.
rabbiporkchop Thanks this.
