Ok post number 2. After going through a few areas, I have some questions. First, I think I must be a four wheeler, not to be stupid but because I only got four wheels? So now you all got me thinking about my trip this weekend.

    1. Lets say I am not in a hurry while driving. Will a trucker get mad if I just hang out behind him. Not close though.

    2. Same thing above, but when it’s dark?

    3. If I am crusing along and need to pass a truck, I always like to be pretty far ahead of the truck. I feel it is safer, but also don’t want to cause issues for the trucker. Is this cool?

    4. Should I call them trucks, rigs, big rigs or what?

    5. Lots of posts talk about Road Dog Radio. Will this help me learn real trucker information?

    6. While driving at night, is there anything I should avoid while driving near trucks?

Thanks again and please feel free to ad things that you think I should know. I wish I would have looked into this stuff years ago.

Get mad? I wouldn't. It's not safe to tailgate any vehicle, especially a semi.

It takes around 350 feet to bring a 80,000-lb semi to a complete stop. More if we're empty or running light, and that's with a perfect response from the driver. If something happens to your vehicle while passing and you cut back in too close, the semi will end up on top of your vehicle. Give us plenty of room.

    Whatever you care to.

    Its informative.

Don't do that "flash-to-pass" BS. Nothing like being blinded by someone's hi-beams just as they start to go by you. We can see you just fine as you approach us without that.

    You're welcome!

Just keep your headlights aimed correctly and please do not flash your high beams to pass.
Many people pack up a vehicle for a vacation. The added weight causes the back of the car to drop which raises the front end causing the headlights to point up (AKA hunting for raccoons in the trees) and into our mirrors/ eyes.
If you can't see the truck drivers mirrors he can't see you.

go with the "do onto others" method absolutely do not tailgate, contrary to popular belief we can see behind our trailers, and lights in the mirrors is very distracting, also when passing allow lots of room before coming back to the right, oh yea, if you are in a hurry you probably wont gain much by following a semi. Maybe invest in a C.B. you can get a small cheep cobra 19 at any truck stop

I personally hate someone getting in behind me and not being able to see them. You constantly check your mirrors and keep tabs on whats behind you but sometimes they'll still slip in and I'll miss them. Then they tail gate and initially you won't even know they're back there. I hate that. Guess they've never seen a tire come apart running 70 MPH?

When it's dark out and you happen to be behind me, please don't continually pop in and out from behind me. Your headlights flashing like a strobe in my mirror are very distracting and do no favors whatsoever for my night vision. I know you're back there because I can see your lights reflecting on the road under my trailer. If I get tired of you being so close, I will slow down a little bit at a time until you get tired of it and pass me. When you do, count the lines on the road and put at least four of them between my front bumper and your tail.

    And thank you for asking.

Aside from rush hour traffic when it's easier if everybody just keeps a steady pace, or a situation where passing would be dangerous, I hate it when another driver ( car, truck, airplane, hitchhiker, ufo or whatever) follows me. I like remote drives where there is little to no other traffic. Anyway, thanks for asking. Take care.

    1. Lets say I am not in a hurry while driving. Will a trucker get mad if I just hang out behind him. Not close though. While it never realy bugs me that a car in behind me, dont get so close I cant see you nor that you can stop in time if I have to stop, and remember what ever flys up off the road and hits you its not my problem.

    2. Same thing above, but when it’s dark? same as above BUT try not to weave back and forth

    3. If I am crusing along and need to pass a truck, I always like to be pretty far ahead of the truck. I feel it is safer, but also don’t want to cause issues for the trucker. Is this cool? Way cool:biggrin_25514:

    4. Should I call them trucks, rigs, big rigs or what? Just dont call me late for supper.

    5. Lots of posts talk about Road Dog Radio. Will this help me learn real trucker information? In the day time yes, the Road Dog channel at night sucks. If you have XM try 152 after midnight

    6. While driving at night, is there anything I should avoid while driving near trucks? Dont use your high beams behind OR meeting any car or truck and if a truck pass's you trun your lights off for a sec then back on, we might that we just passed an old school truck driver in his car.:biggrin_25525:
