    5. Lots of posts talk about Road Dog Radio. Will this help me learn real trucker information? In the day time yes, the Road Dog channel at night sucks. If you have XM try 152 after midnight

all good posts --its good to see a 4 wheeler wanting to learn
but never try to hypermile--i have no qualms of putting tandems way over the shoulder and getting you stoned
hmm i think there must be something wrong with my brakes--always takes me longer to stop when i am loaded heavy than light
which pedal is brake ?--center or left?

Glad you asked all these questions. It would be nice if more four wheelers did the same. ALl the posts that have been made answering your questions are right on the money!!! Have a safe trip

That depend on what I'm hauling...If I'm hauling a "high value" load and I spot a vehicle hanging around for too long I've been known to call the highway patrol and ask them to check it out snd usually they respond fairly quickly.

    Even more so...

When passing a truck, or car for that matter, don't rely on cruise control. I've seen people take 5 miles to pass another vehicle when leaving it on cruise. You can simply gas on it and make your pass and after ample room, get back over, your cc will return to the speed on which it was set. The best rule of thumb I think is to just give the big truck plenty of room.

So long as you weren't tailgating, it wouldn't bother ME.. But if the truck you happen to be following has a high$ or security load... He may try to shake ya off by slowing, or exiting.. (same thing if the driver's a nutcase paranoid! :biggrin_25523:) Otherwise, most drivers will notice for sure and may wonder what you're doing, but most of us won't mind.

This one's different. :biggrin_25525: At night, it actually is a little annoying to have a car hang back behind me. Nothing personal, just the headlights are bothersome on a dark stretch of road, and I'd have to devote part of my attention to seeing what you were doing.

Nope, it's not cool. :biggrin_25523: It's awesome! and very smart, and you hit the "why" it's smart on the head. Thank you!

Eh.. I call mine the "love shack". but that might be a little too much info. I guess 'truck' could be misleading. (I think of "truck" as a bigrig, and "pickup" as a regular non-CMV truck.) "big-truck" "big-rig" "rig" it's all good.

I'll have other drivers jump all over me I'm sure but... I don't listen to road dog so I couldn't tell you.

Remember your brights! I suspect you're the type that IS courteous but there's a lot of 4wheelers who hit their brights as if we're not there. Otherwise, the advice is similar, but much more so at night. It's very dangerous to 'hover' beside a truck on the road. Headlights aren't always a giveaway that you're there. ...

1.) If you're following during the day...that's no problem. BUT...not to close!
2.) Night time...well, that is a TOTALLY different story! I can't stand to have a 4-wheeler follow me at night! Nothing personal. Maybe if you keep a pretty good distance...it's ok, but, in general. I cant stand it!!! it's a total distraction! O, and if you are following at night, please please please, DO NOT "high beam" us, OR weave from side to side! That can be extremely distracting and I am definately going to wonder/try and figure out what the %$#* your doing!
3.) AWESOME!!! I wish all drivers would at least put SOME thought into that!
4.) Whatever, doesn't matter...just dont call us "Super Trucker" LOL!!!
5.) Couldn't tell you...I dont' listen to the radio much
6.) Weaving from side to side if you are behind us, BRIGHT LIGHTS...not even for a "thank you". Running up and down the right side of the truck! Just because you have your headlights doesn't me we can see you the whole time. In short, NEVER "hang-out" beside a truck while going down the hwy!!!

I can tell you what not to do. I went for a ride with my 24 yr old son one day. We approached a semi. He pulled up to just behind the trailer, but in the passing lane. He stayed there for about 30 seconds. Then he floored it to pass the semi. I asked him why he did this. He stated all his fiends pass semis this way. He stays back a while to make sure the driver sees him before passing. I told him that was crap. The drivers constantly scans his mirrors & saw you the second you saw him 2 miles back. Loitering at the back of a semi is more irritating than helpful to a driver. If you're driving with cruise control on, just signal then pass as you would a 4 wheeler. Holding your speed steady makes any situation more predictable than hanging out behind the semi.

Ever see Fast & Furious? We get suspicious when tailed by a car that came up frome behind fast then slowed down right behind us.
