This is an important thing to consider. Is this an employee driver or an owner operator? They have completely different motivations and reasons to be in Maine in the first place. And this aspect would also affect and define “the character” in general.

Excellent, I'd actually love for him to be an owner operator. So basically he'd have a flatbed, and could then pick up at a plant in Maine? And then make local stops? If at all possible, I'd love for his last stop to be in CT...could that work?
So in my ideal situation...he'd pick up feminine products in Auburn (like that because I could try to add some humor...) and then drop off at a warehouse in CT. Could CT ever be the end of the line? He'd then pick up somewhere else locally and drive north again? Does that make sense? -
They wouldn't haul feminine products on a flatbead. I have hauled them and they were in a dry van.
CT can be the end of the line, if he has a reason to go there like going home or a girlfriend, etc.cybill234, Bob Dobalina and RileyL Thank this. -
Thank you!! Okay, so he'd own a dry van, then, or would that only be working for a carrier? (I somehow only pictured owners driving their own flatbeds.) And would he be dropping off at a warehouse in Groton/Waterbury?
After that, would it make sense for him to pick up there locally and then drive north again? Or in most cases would he be traveling further south?
Again, you guys truly are awesome. I had to ask questions of cops a few years ago and they all sounded like they were rolling their eyes at me. (Which I'm sure you are as well, but you hide it, ha.)cybill234 and Bob Dobalina Thank this. -
There’s flatbed freight runs out of Maine to points all over the USA. Various home building products like fiberboard
An owner operator would give the writer a lot more realistic flexibility and options to write in.RileyL Thanks this. -
Truckers like to call each other driver especially over the CB. Truck stop parking lots smell like pee. The industry seems have good fish stories.
If You're looking for some humor it's a good industry to play off of. Lol.
We use electronic logs now on a computer mounted on our dash. We get our dispatches on that computer too. It's called a Qualcomm. Your character would probably drive about 10 hours a day and then have to take a 10 hour break. Thats when they go to the truck stop, park in the fuel island to take a shower. Then move over to the weigh station park and sleep.Justrucking2, Rideandrepair and RileyL Thank this. -
You’re assuming the author is wanting to write non-fiction?RileyL Thanks this.

They mentioned they wanted to make it as real as possible, driver.RileyL Thanks this.
