Very likely you would get a minimum of 3-4 weeks advance notice of when orientation would start once hired. Something to keep in mind is that orientation always starts at the beginning of the week (almost always a Monday) at the start of a new pay period. Each pay period lasts for 2 weeks running from a Saturday through midnight on a Friday. Tonight is the end of the current pay period, so this Monday, May 4th, is the first Monday of a new pay period. Count in 2 week increments and you can get a better idea when orientation may start once a driver makes it through the process and will be hired. From the time a driver submits an application until the day they start orientation is usually about 10-12 weeks or less.

Sealy. Not just because I run out of Sealy, but also because the job the managers here do in many areas ranging from how friendly they are with us drivers to how nice the regular cookouts we have are all the way to how well the DC is maintained overall. I always know I am back in Sealy as I cruise around the smooth DC parking lot that is absent of any potholes in the pavement like some other DC's! :)

Whether you pick Sealy or New B, you would go in and out of each DC from time to time, so you will see both no matter which one you would choose. Just be sure to pick Sealy! There are many drivers who live real close to New B, but choose to be based out of Sealy and travel the extra few hours to Sealy each week instead. That says a lot to me. :)

It depends on the DC and the size of orientation class they are putting together. Often times there are delays due to one or more new hires that have issues, or there could be some issue with final paperwork, etc. For Rick, from job offer to orientation was well over a month. However, there are no guarantees.

I am sure they would try to accommodate you as much as possible.

If you are planning on moving to Texas, come on over. NB has close to 200 drivers at their facility. When any driver is hired, they are hired on as a full time extra. This means you don't have an assigned truck and must slip seat. I know drivers at NB that it took them over three years before THEY were offered a full time truck. At Sealy, we are an open door. Drivers on here and transfer out after one year to a Dc closer to home. We have a driver pool of about 140 and it should be close to 147. We have about 120 power units. You are more likely to slip seat less than a year here than at NB. With all the movement that goes on, programs become available rather quickly. Tom made some great points as well. This is just our opinion. All the dcs are nice in their own way but Sealy prides it self on being the friendliest!

Thanks everybody for your replies, very helpful information!!
    Here's some more questions:
My husband filled out an app for NB on 03/21/15 and about 2 weeks ago it showed Under Consideration.
Then on 03/26/15, he filled out an app for Sealy that was showing Under Consideration and yesterday it changed to Application Received.
Does this mean he's being considered for Sealy??
How long will it take to get a call from Bentonville??
What questions do they ask on the phone interview??
    Thanks again!!!

Rather than speculate about the application status, it is best to contact Walmart direct. Just dial 800-WALMART and ask for Driver Recruiting.

Since you said you were in Alabama, are you aware a new opening for drivers was just posted for the DC in LaGrange, GA on May 1st? Not sure if you were looking at the DC's in Texas as being the closest available or preferred location, but LaGrange is certainly closer to you in Alabama.

We've been wanting to move to TX for a while, but then my husband decided it was better to apply with WM and then move if he gets the job (fingers crossed), and these 2 locations are what we were looking for.
Plus he's been talking to some WM drivers and they gave him great comments on the Sealy DC as well, so at this point he had fallen in love with Sealy.
He didn't consider calling WM, because he didn't want to give them a bad impression, you know some HR depts don't like to get calls from applicants.
I just wanted to understand the hiring process and keep him in the loop.
I know he got excited when I txt him to let him know the status on Sealy changed.
We were just thinking the positions had been already filled, but this put a smile on our faces.

Calling Driver Recruiting will not create any bad impression. They will be happy to give you an update on your application status for each DC that was applied to. Many drivers apply to multiple DC's, so they will call and see what their status is since their application is being compared to other driver applicants received for that DC. Once you begin interviewing for one DC, the applications submitted to other DC's will no longer be considered, so this is why it is best to call and see the current status of your application. It will help in making a decision which DC to pursue easier and whether or not to apply to additional DC locations.

I do know there has not been any interview activity in Sealy recently and the HR and Safety manager have been away from the office for the past 10+ days. If you get called for the initial phone interview, it will usually occur within a week or so. Even though you have not heard from Walmart yet, no news thus far can be good news, as Driver Recruiting does notify all applicants if they rejected an application and will not consider you for a driver position at this time.

    Hi, It's me again.
I just wanted to say THANK YOU to everybody.
Friday night I followed Gloria's advice and started reading the post "Walmart here I come".
OMG!!! There was so much info that I grabbed a note pad and started taking notes about the hiring process.
I only read the 1st 20 pages because it was already 1:00am, but I just couldn't stop reading.
When my husband got home this morning I explained him what I've learned, he sat down and read all the posts on the "Wives of WM drivers" and I pulled Matt's post on his phone and told him he needed to start reading all the info posted there every time he had a chance.
I told him it was ok to call HR, so I'll keep everybody posted about what happens next.
    Thanks Again!!!

Hi friends!!! After a looooong week, my husband got his phone interview today and I'm proud and happy to say that he passed!!!
We're going to Sealy, TX for his 2nd interview (of course me and the kids are not gonna pass the opportunity to go to Texas for a day or 2..... :p ).
And as I read on another post, this has been a "nerve-wracking experience".
Thanks God the interview went well, is done and over and now we're waiting for confirmation to take another little step on the hiring process.
Reading the posts from this forum and "wm here I come", made my husband more relaxed about what was coming.
I wanna say thank you to all the people that has taken the time to post comments and information, you've been a blessing.
I will keep you all posted on how everything is going.
    Good night......:hello2:
