I'm aware that in the past swift transportation had driver facing cameras under the smart drive system .
This information is still on the company website stating that " Safety is one of our top priorities at Swift Transportation, and as such, we provide top-of-the-line safety equipment & technology in each one of our trucks. SmartDrive is a video-based safety tool that helps our drivers know exactly where they stand when it comes to their safe driving. SmartDrive is advantageously designed with the ability to record video and audio, read and interpret roadway signage, and assign drivers with a SmartDrive Safety Score. The SmartDrive camera is exclusively outward-facing and does not have the ability to view or record inside the cab. "
However swift via this video talks about how the driver could just cover up the driver facing side of the camera with a cap they would give you. This is under the system known as Netradyne .
In this video here this man claims that on the official website they talked about giving you a " rubber cap " .
Here's my issues :
1.) I know and have downloaded the video from swifts official youtube channel from april 7th 2025. However a youtube video can be deleted and so can a " facebook post " .
I don't see anything on the website stating what the man implied in the video ... i only see the woman saying it in video by swift.
My main issue here is if it was on the website , in their policy , or terms of service why is it no longer so ?
If you know where it is can you reply to this and say exactly where to find this information ?
2.) Does anyone have any proof other than the youtube video that is written somewhere that states that the driver is actually allowed to cover the driver cam ? If not we need to demand that it is either put on the company website , in their policy , contracts , or in writing somewhere.
I've dealt with a company who sold people a product before features were removed silently , or added silently . They tried to sweep it under the rug until people chewed them out about it and spoke up. They tried to act like they never said what they said and deleted the video evidence but then people just re uploaded the original video and they had to then fix it.
yes we have a video of the lady saying we can cover it up but what is actually allowing us to do so ?
For instance other company drivers apparently can't just cover their driver facing cam ... the question is why ?
Don't get me wrong THAT'S A GOOD THING ! I just want to know why is it that we can do this apparently at swift but other drivers at other companies can't ? Who decides this ? if swift just told people last month that they can cover it could that set the bar for other companies to allow their drivers to also cover their camera ?
Do you see where I'm going with this ? NO MATTER WHO YOU WORK FOR STAND UP AGAINST IT ! I'm a nobody with no platform but ###### if i have to be the one to get the avalanche rolling then so be it ! I'm asking these questions because i don't see anyone else asking them. No matter if you have an account or not and you read this ... some of you have a platform and a voice. It worked in the past so why wouldn't it work again ?
I want something in legal writing , something on the website , or something in terms of service that states we can cover that cam and I think ALL TRUCKERS SHOULD BE ASKING THESE SAME QUESTIONS ? I CAN'T DO IT ALONE ! WILL YOU ASK THESE QUESTIONS AND DEMAND ANSWERS BECAUSE I WILL .
If you have a platform , do videos , or ANYTHING OF THE SORT PLEASE ASK ,AND DEMAND THAT WE GET ANSWERS TO THIS !

You can ask and demand all you want, but the fact is Swift and any company can change their policy at any time.
There are no laws covering what you asking about, it is just how the (or any) company decides to do things.
Trying to start a movement about this is really pointless.bryan21384, austinmike, Rugerfan and 7 others Thank this. -
Who cares? If you don't like Swift's policies then go somewhere else. Companies that use the tearless retina are the mimority. Plenty of carriers don't and working for a mega isn't the best option anyway unless you have no experience.

I will be very blunt with you, drivers, this is your making.
The insurance companies are reacting to the crap drivers who have caused more accidents and problems for the entire industry.
You don't want driver-facing cameras, then go work for a company that has other means of mitigating poor driving habits and behavior.
Maybe, just maybe, this will become an FMCSA requirement for all trucks, no exceptions.
Maybe they will also go to hair follicle testing, trying to do a workaround, like having no hair, no CDL.
There is a solution, and it won't be nice for drivers, tightening up on enforcing the laws and regulations, and make CDLs something you earn.truckguy391, austinmike, Rugerfan and 8 others Thank this. -
Next, the AI camera will put the truck in "limp mode" and force you to pull off the road if it doesn't like what you're doing.
Enter self driving trucks.
Just wait until we have EV trucks. They'll park themselves over a charging pad, "fuel" up and go.
Ain't the future great? Glad I'm knocking on retirements door.austinmike and Flat Earth Trucker Thank this. -

I just want to see how the DOT is gonna tell the AI that it's overweight on the trailer and needs to slide the tandems.austinmike and dptrucker Thank this. -
Both Moosetek13 and Iamoverit either missed the point entirely . You're either have poor reading comprehension skills or you're lazy and just skim read.
The entire point of the thread is that I DON'T SEE THIS IN WRITING ANYWHERE ! " If yOu DoNt L1kE cAmErAs " The point is that it should be in the contract , policy , terms of service etc. I'm seeing people say it was on the company website but i don't see it . The question is why don't i see it and was it removed ? I'm simply telling others to ask these questions because as you know the more that ask the more likely they'll answer those questions . I keep forgetting that this is the trucking industry where you have a lot of old guys with a different attitude than the newer generation like myself . Some of you guys are DOOM AND GLOOM as if you just embrace anything . An old man told me " you either stand for something or you'll lay down for anything " . Bottom line is simply put : It's cool that we can cover the driver facing cam at swift but where is that statement legally ?
Picture this : We have the video from last month with the CEO's from swift telling us so correct ? You'd think on average ok cool so what's the issue ? The issue is imagine being a new guy like me and losing your job because you covered the cam just as they instructed . Then all of the sudden that live is no longer on the youtube and they play dumb like " we never said that ? " The point is if it's in the policy , terms of service , or at least plastered on the website ... they'd be in trouble if they fired enough people over it.
Some might think I'm overreacting but let me ask you this ... have you ever dealt with a company in general that sweeps things under the rug or tries to act as if they didn't say something they did in fact say ?
All I'm asking for is that we have some form of documentation that states we can do this at swift that's all. If this even reaches one guy with a platform that will somehow reach those CEO's at swift and they even consider putting it in writing somewhere then good. Any time people ever stood up against something it had to start somewhere .
All trolls will be ignored ... if you have a DOOM AND GLOOM attitude and you're willing to lube yourself up for anything with a smile on your face then this post isn't for you. I'm talking to the people who actually care. -
Most trucking jobs are at will employment, meaning there’s no contract between you and the carrier. You can leave when you want, they can terminate your job (within reason) if they want. If you cover your camera and then one day Swift says that it’s no longer allowed then it’s simply time to find a different job. Enough people do that and they’ll change their mind like they did the last time.

In the paperwork you sign when you are hired are words that say you agree to work & have your work evaluated by company policy AND COMPANY POLICY CAN CHANGE AT THE DISCRETION OF THE COMPANY. You will essentially sign a 'blank check' that you have been notified, you will work by company rules, and company rules can change as the company sees fit. Your opinion and your preference for how this happens is not relevant except to you. If you don't like those rules you can work elsewhere or not at all. You don't become company management or legal council just by getting hired to be a driver. Other drivers are not obligated to blow up their job or career to help your crusade or satisfy your online wishes. People can and should make decisions for themself.
Sirscrapntruckalot Thanks this.
