Let's say you already have your truck, and your ready to hire your truck on to a company, or sign a contract to haul their trailers/freight.
Can we get a list of question you ask when our looking to put your truck on to one company long term? Things like FSC, company insurance or your own policy, do the company charge you rent for there trailers, etc.

No No No....It is against FMCAS 2010 and the DOT to ask Questions. This is a 999 CSA Points and 800 points on your driving record. You must NOT ASK QUESTIONS..EVER

Just drive your bobtail around and when you see a company that has trailers, hook to it and deliver the load..This is the only way to do this..Once delivered you can ask what it pays and all the details about the load..NOT any sooner or you will be required by DOT to wear a DOT APPROVED donald duck hat.And you don't want that.People at the truck stops will think your one of those dumb company drivers....

Good luck to you and keep up the good work...:biggrin_2551:

Friend you can ask all the questions you want. The good companies always pays the best and treat their people good. The bad one's will lie Cheat and steal your time and never feel guilty.but here are some question's I will Ask..:biggrin_25524:

What Does your company requires? see if I am qualified for the job
What kind of equipment are you looking for? See if my truck qualified.?

Is your company a Force Dispatch? " IF He/She Even Blink when they answer "NO GOOD"......... NO FORCE Dispatch for you
What States Do You Run? " IF they say allover Ask Again What States? If they mention Canada or Mexico... "Run for the Hills"
Nothing against Canada/Mexico But these loads go cross boarders and You should see what kind of Crap a driver has to put up with at the boarders and you need a passport and you have to do this and that and if that company has any kind of hanky panky problems with customs etc.Sooner or Later "YOU WILL BE SORRY" you joined that canoe club.

How do you pay %or Millage? " they are about the same" they have done the math the only reason you are asking this question is If they say {BOTH} "BAD NEWS".
This type of companies are "BIG Crooks".....Lucifer him self couldn't make money with them.

If they say % Then open your ears Like an elephant if they are one of those Schmucks Like JONES,Landstar that say they will pay 75% of 98% " BAAAAAAAAAAD"
You Always have to have 75% of 100% anything Less you will need FEMA to make your truck payment at the end of the month
IF you don't provide the trailer you should hope for 70% or more because of your empty miles
If you have your own Trailer you must Have 75%-85% depending on How cheap their freight is
If they say we pay Millage then you need to look that SOB recruiter straight in the eye and ask this question.
    BOOK MILES?? or Practical Miles????????
Here where you will find The GOOD,The Bad, And The SOB..:yes2557:

If they pay BOOK miles STOPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP the interview.... Hell Just Hang up on that NO good moocher:yes2557:
with today's cost of fuel there are no room for 10% to 15% Less money

If you are leasing on to a VAN REEF out fits make sure they pay ALL LUMPERS if they say NO we pay lumpers UP TO?????????
Tell them you pay the lumper ALL OF IT.. NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER Do lumper your self NEVER
Once they get used to you Lumping their Freight the Lumper Fee's will start to decline all the way back to $40/load DON"T Open That Can of Worms....:biggrin_25516:

Next question Do You Pay Detention?????????????????????????????????????????????????
If they say after the first 2 Hrs that is usual BUTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT.....They must pay you with a com check or give you new trip # or what ever
None of that Bull crap we will pay you IF or WHEN the customer pay CRRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAP " That is just the lying Lawyer answer......:biggrin_25510:
If you will be Hauling a Reefer then WHO PAYS THE REEFER FUEL?..:biggrin_25524: NEVER NEVER NEVER YOU

Who Pays The Road TAX " IFTA" ? the good companies pay that :biggrin_25525:
The crooks They say WE Pay IT and Stick it to Ya on your settlements:biggrin_25512:

I'm going to stop now and let some one else add to my pile of hate & discontent with these carriers out here because most of the sneaky ######## are reading this post too.
Hell some of them are pretending that they are Newbies looking for more info on this or that I hope you aren't one of them Are YAHHHHHHH??...:biggrin_25517:

Always Get you own authority when ever you think you can do that and stay away from these carriers.

As tony the tiger would say......

    They RRRRRRRRRR CRRRRRRRRRRAPP
    Happy Hunting :biggrin_25525:

Haha that was a fun read! I'm not one of those crooks just a company driver with dreams of going O/O. Been doing lots of research and recently trying to talk to companies hiring O/O's but seems most companies almost go out of their way to help you until they find out you don't have your truck yet, then they don't have the time of day for us. Thanks for that info though it's good stuff and helps a lot!

The best companies to check are the ones that don't have to pay for advertising or have a now hiring sign. I'd rather work for a company that don't have to advertise and know nothing about them than work for an advertising company and know exactly why your getting. If you find yourself sitting in a room with other drivers just like you getting a orientated, ask yourself this, "wonder why this company hires do many drivers every week?"

Wow, alot of people love Landstar and your pretty against um. No offence, but I think some of your items listed are personal. i go to canada all the time and its no hassle. Fax a few docs back and forth. If your white (im not rasist, but border patrol is) crossing the border takes 30 seconds. No company will be perfect and yes, landstar has some funny math for their numbers. No recruiter is going to be 100% honest (I don't think).

For me, i ask averge /mile a driver makes including fuel surcharge. (whether they are % or /mile, they should have and average available)
    Obviously, no forced dispatch.
Ask about home time if you want it.
Ask all the cost for insurance, base plates and permits
Ask about additional fees, qualcome, locks, etc.
If not self dispatch like landstar. ask about dispatcher to driver ratio.

Most comapnaies pay "book miles". I don't care how they pay, but one that pays book miles need to pay more / mile. its not a "hang up right away".

As for for ifta, you should have to pay the fuel/road tax, so if they dont, keep it in mind when comparing, but its not a deal breaker.
