Hello everyone,
I posted before that I am a CDL driver from Idaho who is 20 and has an intrastate restriction and was looking for help with finding work. I first wanted to tell you all that I am not having much luck with that. Any more help and ideas of companies that I can work for will be appreciated.
Second, an interesting thing came up. I have been put on a new medication for my disability, and I am in need of a new DOT physical. However, me and my mother were talking about this, and we were both wondering if the new medication might disqualify me from the DOT physical. My question is, are there certain medications that disqualify you from a DOT physical, and if so, what are those medications? I would like to know because of my circumstances.
Any help will be greatly appreciated,
Good numbers, (working on my trucker slang,)

What medications disqualify a CMV driver? -
Hello,
Thank you so much. As soon as I get the information on my dosage and the medication, I will let you guys know. I hope you can help me out.
Good numbers,
Jared.buddyd157 Thanks this. -
www.ExpeditiersOnline.com runs cargo vans. Courier services are probably your best chance though since you're not 21 yrs. old yet.
Don't get a physical until you find out about your current medication. If you flunk a physical drug test due to unauthorized medication, that presents another major problem. Change medications if you have to in order to pass the physical.
Some courier companies use cargo vans similar to this one. You might carry packages or maybe a couple of pallets of freight. These are decent jobs and can do this until you reach 21 yrs. old.Last edited: Aug 25, 2017

What is the nature of the disability and what type of or name of the medicine are we dealing with here?
Federal Drug scheduling guidelines run Schedule one through 4. One's are a automatic ban to any driving as it specifically alters the mind. (Same class as Pot, PSP, etc...) Other medicines in strong doses will generate a minimum of a DUI which you never want either in a big truck or a car. It's a automatic arrest. One of the tests performed is a horizonal Eye test which can provide up to 6 clues that you are too impaired to drive at all. It will reliably indicate you have something inside of you, be it drugs, medicine or alcohol etc.
If you are being paid SSdI from Social Security for disability, you can only earn a small amount per month working before you see your benefits go away. if the disability is related to mental health, then trucking will probably not hire you. If you go into trucking and became a fully functioning worker at 21 and older, then you will be taken off the disability rolls and possibly billed for the benefits recieved while working.
There is no way for any of us to proceed with answers that can help you without knowing in the ballpark what the disability is and or medicines. -
Hello,
I just got out of the doctor's office for my med check, so I can give you an up-to-date update. The medications I had to change was Adderall for ADD. They added Adderall to my medications list. Everything else stay the -
I apologize, my hand slipped and I posted that early. As I was saying, everything else stayed the same. All that was added was Adderall for ADD. My previous Doctor who did the DOT physical was able to pass me though.

You need a note from your doctor saying your condition plus drug will not adversly affect your driving, if your doc wont do such a note Im not surprised.
Many companies tend to shy away from potential issues with you if there are 50 other applicants competing without drugs for the same job.
You will want to find some way to get clean and free from that medicine and over come the limitations of your condition.
Is Adderall ok for DOT Physical -
Hello,
I really appreciate the help. I really do. Just so you know, I'm not discouraged by what you're saying. I do want to drive safe, and I am just doing my research. I will let you know if I have any other questions.
One thing I would like to say, is that while I was at my med check I asked about the new medication and how it would affect my DOT physical, the doctor said "It should not be a problem."
