I looked to see if these were answered but I couldn't find anything on them. The phyical what does it involve. I did one all ready but I know trucking companies like their own doctors to do there's. I am going to Fontana on the 2nd of January. I just really want to get started. Is there anything else I need to know before I had there? I know freight is slow this time of year its good that I don't live very far away if its going to take longer then a week.

Make sure u bring a sleeping bag. The physical is standard. Eye and ear check, blood pressure, and wiz quiz.
-
Bring everything you need for 6 weeks on the road. I took a sleeping bag, 15 pairs of socks, 15 underoos, 6 pairs of shorts, 6 pairs of sweats, 12 t-shirts, jacket, gloves, ####showershave kit, prescription medications, laundry soap and dryer sheets. I changed socks and underoos every day, pants and shirt every 3 days (you're only sitting in a chair, no sweat or dirt) and my first week went off without a hitch. I know I know it was only a week but after the holidays we're staying out for 5 weeks straight.
If they don't pair you up right away just go home but be ready to go at a moments notice. -
UNDEROOS?!?! rofl. please go to fontana having not drunk any alcohol in at least 24 hours, and not having taken any drugs for 90 days. last thing you need is to pop positive on pee test for either...THIS INCLUDES MANY LEGAL DRUGS.

When they find you a mentor ask about room in their truck for you're stuff as well, rember that the truck it's their home away from home........
Ooh and p.s. Don't take a suit case....... Common fopaa -
Well problem with me is I am 6'5 350lbs I don't know if I'm able to get up into that top bunk if I have to. let alone how much it can hold. I am a little worried about that. I don't drink or do drugs so it won't be a problem with the wiz quiz
They say have a complete medical record ready to go. What is that I haven't seen a doctor in a long while.
I don't really have a suit case but I do have a bag on rollers I am sure I could find a way to make it fit. I hope -
First, don't over pack, terminals have washers and dryers as well as almost every trk stop. The medical I think is a joke. You walk in, they give you a medical questionare with every body system listed, then tell you to answer 'yes or no', if you have any issues or conditions/illness etc. If lets say all your truthful answers are no. So much the better, no one really questions anything that you put down. They take your word for it, lets just say.
Next you are taken and given a blood pressure test, a urine test, and they also check for sugar in it with a chem strip. Then a vision test, where you stand in a hall way and read off the eye chart.
Next your taken to a room to wait, then someone, either a M.D. or Physicans Assistant or maybe even a Nurse Practicioner will give you a cursory exam. Maybe check your liver, maybe not, maybe check your ruptures, turn your head and cough etc.
And if everything is ok.......Then you get your paperwork, all signed, sealed and delivered right into your waiting hands.
The drug test results usually take a couple of days, they notify the term itself, and not you.
I have seen it, in my past where on the 3 rd day of orientation, so and so is missing, people ask oh were did so and so go? Well, guess why?
I am not sure about this but.......
I do almost think, that they are asking and really checking to see if larger people have sleep apnea. Don't quote this as gospel, but they may require you to take a sleep test, maybe. just be aware if they dwell on your sleep patterns, don't give them a reason to make you take some other kind of test you may not actually need. hint hint......
The med exam is a blow off. Its a cattle mill, they run so many people thro those places each day and week, its just numbers and money to be made.
Don't sweat it.
But at the same time.
If your BP runs a little high, check it a walmarts or walgreens if you can. But do what ever you can to lower it back into a more normal range. Its really one of the corner stones or big markers that they look at, and use to evaluate you. Meaning, if your BP is just about normal, they'll just ask you about your health, then its goodbye, see you in 2 yrs. But if your BP is high. Its a big red flag, a restricted medical card in some cases, or you needing to go and get some BP meds from your own MD to lower it. etc.
well I hope this helps, the med exam really is no big deal. Believe me its not. Don't sweat it.ShamrockSalono Thanks this. -
P.S.
You may want to read the other topic in the Swift Forum titled, "Sleep test, whats it all about."
just fyi, because of what you stated your height and weight to be, this may pertain to you as well. -
I don't snore and no one has ever said I stopped breathing while a sleep. If I am really tired I can snore but other then that. people have told me I am quite when I sleep.
The whole bunk thing is the problem if he makes me get the top bunk I don't even know if I could sleep knowing something was holding me in air. let alone not knowing if it will hold me.
I am also very active. I am trying to lose more weight. at one point I was well over 400 pounds I had some stuff happen in my life and I got depressed. after I started school during the summer I started to shed the weight pretty quick I think I am back down under 350 my legs are the strongest part of my body If I had some arms on me I think a NFL team would try to recruit me cause I am so big. I think I could lift over 200 pounds yeah its not much but for me it is and like I said if I actually had muscals I don't have streght in my arms just not as much as I could. I started my vending machine busniess I have moved vending machines by myself. They are #### heavy. before I started my busniess I worked in a warehouse unloading containers nothing was on pallets I had to hand load them on pallets and when one person is on the fork and the other on loading it sucks cause you have sometimes 2500 to 3000 boxes to get off. They would hire help but they wouldn't keep them very long maybe a hour or so.
I thiink I should be ok as far as the BP and Blood sugar just in care I won't eat out and start drinking water someone told me taking large deep breaths helps to calm you down and lower your BP. I hope that works. -
Just lay off the simple carbs and sugar, drink water, black coffee, and eat plain old meat/eggs you will lose the weight and cure the body of most problems. You might feel tired for a few days but the body will transition to use your body fat for energy.
