What's up everyone ? I know yall probably get tired of seeing and answering the same questions. I've read a few of these and have also talked to a lot of people in this business. I'm just trying to learn all I can learn before I start this. So my questions for Yall would be does my age really matter ? I recently filled out an app for a company and was told my back ground was perfect but because I'm only 22 thier insurance wouldn't cover me. So do I have to wait til I'm 25 or are there ways around it ? With my age Is it better to work for a company or to just get the equipment and do it that way? And is there any other way to get experience besides signing up with a major company and being away from family for months? I have a few more questions but I'll hold them for later..

You looking for hotshot driving?
Anyway, you're 22 so 23 isn't too far away.
Dozens of OTR companies will hire you right now. Which state do you live in? -
Yes , and I'm in Houston Texas

You going to be doing flatbed with hotshot? If so, then go with a flatbed company now that hires your age then when you're 23 go with a hotshot company. Doesn't matter if the company is perfect or not, the main thing is to be gaining experience until you're 23 yrs. old.

Ok thanks , and I was thinking Auto Transport but either way like you said the goal is to get experience

Don't let that CDL sit idle for too long or you may be forced into a "refresher course" before many companies will hire you.

If you have tanker/hazmat endorsements then look at CTL Transportation. This company hires 21 yr. old drivers and does lots of work around Houston area and the Gulf Coast.
TheTakeover Thanks this. -
I realize you're the go to man for info regarding trucking companies who will hire drivers with special needs, but in the flatbed community, no one has a worse reputation than WE. Even putting in time at a dryvan carrier until he is 23, and then going to a flatbed carrier to get his lumps would be better.TheTakeover Thanks this.
