Hi. I've been considering trying to go into trucking, since I find the idea of being on the road a lot a good lifestyle for me, but I have a few questions and concerns. I'm a 34 female and I would like to know if it's dangerous to go into trucking if you're a woman? Is sexual assault common, or is the job relatively safe?

Also, what schools are legit to try in Las Vegas where I could possibly get a grant to cover it all? I have absolutely no way to pay a loan off if I couldn't get a job in time afterward.

Southwest Truck Driver Training in Las Vegas. They have tuition financing plus many trucking companies will pay off the loan for you through their "tuition reimbursement program."
If you pay the loan payments yourself, they don't start until 45 days after graduation. You can start work the day you graduate if you submit applications early, such as starting them during the first week of school.

Most of the truckstops I feel safe. Parking in random places in bad areas isnt as safe male or female.
Most of the guys you meet otr are really friendly.
Just be aware of the people youre around
    Welcome to trucking ^_^

Freymiller is a good company that hires new cdl grads. Trucks are set up right for driver comfort. I'd put Freymiller as a first choice. Do the online applications.
    Navajo Express
    Magnum Ltd.
    Mountain Valley Express
Roehl Transport - dry van national fleet
Make a list of companies that interest you and submit applications during the first week of school. The school will push some companies, but you don't have to go with what they recommend. Take your time and apply to the ones you like. Apply to several; the more the better.
You will need "original birth certificate" and "original social security card" that's not laminated.
I think the companies I listed do the urine drug test except for Roehl which does hair follicle.

About the only thing most outsiders know about trucking comes from TV & movies. The danger is wildly exaggerated. Almost everyone is too busy doing their job to do more than look at you are say something. There are easy ways to avoid the rare trouble-maker at a truckstop. The most likely unpleasant thing at a truckstop is hooker knocking on your door whole you sleep or someone wanting to sell you something while you are parked. 75% if your day you will be driving. 90% plus of your day you will be in your truck.

There are many women, including 50-60 year old women driving. It's not something you should worry too much about.

Try for the grant. Under or unemployed can get it for you.
I thought I would like OTR before I started. I don’t like it, I love it. Made one of my customer/delivery persons sick. Asked me about OTR. Told him I feel like I’m goofing off out there all the time. Just go driving around everywhere in the country. I stop once or twice a week to empty/deliver from my trailer. They pay me 800 or a thousand dollars each time. Then I go back to driving around. He said; You’re kidding. I said: nope.
If you talk to cops. They’ve seen a whole lot of bad. They will say: If I were you. I’d carry a gun. But it’s your call.
Best thing is to be “the gray man”. Blend in. Nothing to attract attention in anyway to you.
I’d chose Magnum. I like them. Extremely honest.
