Quick answer! NO! :) You can work 70 hours straight on duty not driving in 8 days, but that's the cap. No exemptions unless CDL exempt or a declared emergency like hurricane aide.

You can shut down and roll your 70 with hours available the next day. Usually once you reach that 70 it's time for a restart.

Alright that's kind of what I thought. Been driving over 2 years but never had this situation come up. Im going to get back to my home terminal exactly as I hit my 70. But Im supposed to then unload my truck. I guess that won't be happening

Yes you can still work on-duty/not driving after your 70 is up, but you will not be able to drive until you regain hours on your 70 (either from a 34 restart or if enough hours fall off your 8/9th day)

Actually he can work past the 70, BUT he can not drive again until he has had a 34 hour reset. When you hit the 70 you are not allowed to drive again until a 34 hour reset is completed.

So, let's say he unloads his truck and it takes 10 hours then he goes home. From the time he punches out/logs off-duty after unloading his truck he can not drive again until he has not worked for 34 hours.

The 11(driving), 14(driving/working), 70(driving/working) hour limits are maximum limits, but they are mandatory shutdowns, once they are hit.

He would not be able to roll the next day after hitting the 70 hour total regardless of what rolls off...there are no hours to roll off once the maximum is hit, until a 34 hour reset is completed. If he wanted to roll hours, then he should not reach the 70 and wait for the roll off.

He wouldn't necessarily have to take a 34 he restart, provided the hours he gains at midnight bring his total back down under 70 hrs. For instance, when he is done today he has worked a total of 75 hrs. If he picks up 10 hrs at midnight, he would have 5 hours to work tomorrow. You are never required to take a 34 hour reset, it is merely an option that is available if the driver chooses to utilize it.
