If I get a green light coming up to a weigh station but there's a sign that says "ALL TRUCKS MUST ENTER" am I supposed to enter the scale? There's one in Banning CA that I've passed a few times this week and I get a green light every time, but every truck I've seen has entered the scale so It's kind of making me nervous.

I don't know about Banning. I do know if they want you, they will come and get you. No need to be nervous until they pull you over.

You always follow the Prepass, which is what I'm assuming the green light is, except in AZ and AR when hauling Hazmat.

Yeah, I mean the prepass. I figured if they literally wanted all trucks to enter then they'd turn off the sensors or just give everyone a red light. That's the logical assumption, but I know an excuse like that probably wouldn't convince a highway patrolman. I could imagine them shrugging there shoulders and saying, "Oh well, should have followed the sign, here's your ticket."

it's your job to read the signs. you wouldn't be asking your question. :biggrin_255:

somewhere in all the signs that point to the scale is a prepass information sign. it says "all trucks not given bypass must enter open scale" or something to that effect. i don't have prepass so i don't really pay attention. other then the big signs that says open or close.

I've seen the "all trucks not given bypass must enter open scale" sign, but when it's followed by an even bigger sign that's lit up and says "ALL TRUCKS MUST ENTER" plus all the trucks around me are entering the scale I just get kind of worried. The sign is just a little confusing is all I'm saying.

When in doubt, pull in, if you don't it may cost you a big bundle.

    There are several signs.

PREPASS site. Please follow PREPASS direction or something like that.

WEIGH STATION: All trucks and or buses must enter

    PLEASE FOLLOW ELECTRONIC SIGN:

In Lousiana, they have the signs, PREPASS and whatnot. if the PREPASS blinks green, keep going.

On a permitted load, hazmat and OSOW, on the permit, it will state that you must enter the scale when open, regardless of any electronic signs or PREPASS. If you blow a scale with placards on your load or oversized signs, they're going to come after you as if you were public enemy number one.

I bypass the scales for any reason I get. Never once had a problem. Be sure and stop in Arkansas if you have hazmat. They've chased me down once and wasted my time

I guess I'm just an overly paranoid noob. I went through one of those scales where they give you an arrow you're supposed to follow if it points to the left you cruise through at 35 and if it points to the right you have to slow down and go over the scale. I accidentally went through the 35 mph lane and when I realized it, it was too late. This was only like my third day on the job and I was ######## bricks. About a mile down the road I saw some flashing lights on the shoulder and I just knew it was some cop waiting to pull me over. I wanted to barf. Of course it was just a cop that had pulled over a speeder.
