I drove for almost 10 years. 4 as a company driver and 6 as an O/O. I've been off of the road for a long time.

When I was an O/O I used a single person dispatch service to keep me moving. Once I came off the road I provided that same service to 5 of my freinds that were still on the road.

I am currently providing that service for 3 O/O. I was hoping for your input to tell me if you think this is fair...

I find them all of their loads. They can let me know in advance which area they'd like to start heading. I always try to stay within their requested rates. I do all paperwork. They have final say so as to taking any load or not... The O/O collects on their freight bills and pay me a flat 7% of the total invoice topping out at $70.00. In other words if the load is paying $3000 I don't whack them for the full 7%. Instead of $210, I only get $70.00.

Don't know... Is that a good deal? I've been out of it for a few years. I still have all of my customers so most of the loads are from shippers, not brokers.

If and when I do need to go through a broker, I have one that will take a modest %.

Please post your input... I am not looking for any additional business right now.... I am truely asking for your opinions. Nobody better to ask then you folks.

Just for the record.... I think it's VERY SHI*** that most in the industry look at and treat you like a wrench or some other tool to be used and tossed aside until needed again.

People don't seem to get the fact without trucks there's nothing in the stores to buy, no construction and/or production jobs due to lack of materials, etc...

Anyway... Thanks in advance for any and all input... I do really need some advice here.

I think you're being pretty darn fair.

If you are actually finding the loads via your own shipper contacts then I would say you are acting as an agent and should get a % of the entire freight charge without limit.

If you are working as a dispatching service finding loads via brokers, load boards, etc. then the setup you describe seems fair.
