Tonight is my first night training and my "mentor" left me in the truck on the side of the road while he went home for the night. Cant fall asleep so i have my phone plugged into a charger to watch some movies and one small dome light on. Can i leave both running all night without killing the battery?
quick question

You would probably get a low voltage warning or the lights would automatically shut off along with any outlets.

The phone charger shouldn't be a problem, but careful on the dome light. If the batteries are crap, you may be looking for a jump start in the AM.
That is not likely, but I've seen it happen. One of the company trucks wouldn't start one morning, got the cables on it and one dome light in the sleeper was on. But we also found out that 2 of the three batteries were no good once we got it to Carco.
Also, if he left you on the side of the road while he went home, kind of sounds like he's a pr***. IMO -
Hopefully this is the only time it happens or ill be looking for a new trainer. Voltage seems to be holding steady so i may idle for 20 minutes or so in a few hours.

You should be fine. If your training, then your probably in a newer truck. Most likely it has been regularly maintained. That was not the case on that company truck.
The driver had a bad habit of not doing a pre-trip, or anything else regarding maintenance. He actually had ALL (count'em - 10) of his lug nuts come off of a drive axle. 8 had worked loose and then the final 2 broke the studs.
He had just pulled a flatbed into the yard loaded with 40K lbs of tubing. -
As for the running of accessories, I'd be very careful about doing that for a long period of time. Maybe what you might want to consider doing is, getting some much needed sleep, or buy a battery powered light for reading, or a simple flashlight.
Good luck with trying to get a new trainer. You may be sent home first, then may not ever be called back. Then you might get "DAC'd" for something later on. No need to make waves, you are only a newbie, nothing more at this point, and your griping about a trainer will not go too far. They will have many, many other newbies just dying to get a job. -
Drive the truck somewhere with food and facilities, then drive back before the "mentor" arrives...
If he has a problem, tell him to go screw; he left you on the side of the road. The Admiral, nicholas_jordan and ewill71 Thank this. -
U4EA has the correct procedure, the batteries in these things can probably take it but if he left you in the truck then you are responsible for the safe operation of the truck ~ thus any roadside rest area or any truck-parking truck-stop is the thing to do
U4EA Thanks this. -
atleast leave the trainee close to a target/walmart or food facilities. being a newbie doesn't mean you have to be treated less than a human. No one here would want anyone doing that to their children or themselves. come on people.
mrvolts, Bigarmin88, U4EA and 2 others Thank this. -
Yeah. No kidding. What company is that for? BTC hooked us up with hotel rooms when our trainer went home.. and he just leaves his truck on the side of the road for home time? I doubt the company likes that, so you got a leg up if he starts being an idiot about you taking it to a truck stop.
