We have to deal with jerks all day every day. 99.5% of people around us hate us. 4 wheelers see us as a sloppy, nasty nuisance that has nothing better to do than to get in their way. DM's, load planners, brokers, and the office staff in general think we are whiny ### ####### who throw temper tantrums at the drop of a dime. Cops and DOT believe that we are all generally unsafe and illegal and treat us as guilty until proven guilty. Our significant others give us grief, and our friends don't understand.
So my question is this:
Why are we jerks to each other??
If anybody knows what a truck driver goes through every day, it's another truck driver..yet we treat each other just like everybody else treats us. We cut each other off, tailgate, won't let another truck pass, cuss each other out. Even using the turn signal is become an exception more than the rule. Half the trucks out there won't even move over when there's a broke down truck on the shoulder.
Why?

Because a lot of truckers only care about themselves and that 15 min can make or break their logbook. I try to be nice to fellow drivers. We should have each others backs and work together.

there are lots of reasons why truckers are jerks.
it's really no different then any other person in any other profession. or just in every day life. (grocery store, etc). \
you can always pray to god and see if he'll make it rain for 40 days again. -
Well, maybe too many truckers are the slobs and jerks they are made out to be.
I am tailgated by just as many trucks as I am 4-wheelies.
I often see trash thrown on the ground next to trucks (or under my own truck during my morning pre-trip), when a trash can is 25 feet away.
I shouldn't have to smell piss, or worse, when I step out of my truck. Nor should I have to step in something.
The jerks I have mostly had to deal with in my 2 years driving have mainly been other truckers.
Very little from shippers and receivers, or even 4-wheelies for the most part.
As a profession I'd say we deserve the disrespect, because so many of us are so disrespectful.bigkev1115, sewerman, Rugerfan and 3 others Thank this. -
When I started driving truck in 1996 there where still some truck stops that had family style eating. That's when there was a table that sat 4-12 drivers. We would all sit at the table together and talk about where we were from and our families. I only no of one truck stop like that still and it up in Bangor, ME. I don't remember the name of it but starts with a "D". Well I haven't been up that way in about 7-8 years so I don't even know if its there anymore. Seems no a days all you get out of driver is a bunch of belly aching at the truck stops if you even get them to talk to you. Maybe we should go back to the big family style tables.

Because TRUCKING is a form of employment that allows the DREGS of the industry to do whatever the feel like doing to demean others , damage property , look like pigs and to get away with it, all the while we ALL get branded with the generalization that ALL TRUCKERS are like that.
