came across this today. I think it's a truthful summary of "Life as an OTR driver" ...

    Truck Driver

After 23 years on the big road....I know for a fact that no one appreciates what we really have to do except other drivers....The NUT on the cell phone who never realized how close he came to attending his own funeral....the soccer mom who thinks it's CUTE to drive along side of us so we can blow our horn for the kiddies....then pull in front of us,put on their turn signal and expect us to stop on a dime and give them nine cents change. The personal time we spend AWAY from home....just to earn a living....sleeping in strange and sometimes unsafe places.....getting shorted on our pay by some of these "employers". Being on the job 24/7....but only being paid by how many miles we drive. Yes it's our own #### fault...we could have stayed on that other job that didn't pay worth a #### back home....but we took a chance to try to make a better life. Some of us will make it....most will not....that's the big picture. If we do get home without anyone being killed or injured....then that's a good day

    It's deadly out here.

Wife is always watching me leave via the porch with that worried look.

I think the opposite because most people I talk to say "wow how do you maneuver that big truck?" or "how do you drive for so long!" or "how can you stay away from home for so long?" They make a big deal out of something that isn't hard once you get used to it. I am divorced with no kids so I only go home to warm up my car and pickup all of the packages I order from Amazon.

There are plenty of jobs in this nation that go unappreciated by the rest of us who benefit from their work daily. If you expect a pat on the back for doing your job well and properly then you need to get busy patting a whole lot of other people on their back's, too.

Yep. And the utility workers who handle 14,000 volts in the dark, wind, and rain, but can't get power restored fast enough following major storms to satisfy many. The guy who get's up at 4:00 every morning to drive a clumsy, smelly, top-heavy truck around to pick up your garbage. The fry cook who has to get 30 orders out at the same time because a bus full of tourists came in. And we could go on and on but I think the point is made.

    bullhaulerswife and Scotty210 Thank this.

being a driver myself for almost 22 years and seeing what it is really like....it scares the heck out of me for hubby to leave to go to work.. (we only quit OTR a week ago today)i tell him a million times..."be careful"......i know how many close calls we have had because of the stupidity of others....if i overthink it....i stress myself out beyond belief....LOL

we are def. unaprreciated...the same people that dont want us in their towns , in their way...dont stop to think that its us, that just brought the things they just bought or are going to buy...been said before, but at some point EVERYTHING is on a truck at some point in time.....i could go on, but CB is huffing at me to get off here..
