    I wouldn't say I am "successful" yet.....

Hell, last week I called and told BigBadBill I felt like I was failing.

If it's not the truck breaking, I am breaking. This month I lost a week worth of working after having outpatient surgery.

This weekend I am out in PA having Rebel127 work on my truck and doing a project out here.

I do what I can to cut any expense I can and save as much I can on fuel.

I always shoot for $2 or more a mile to the truck. That's more "average" than per trip. Some times I'll get a load that pays $4.81 per mile. That might only be 70 miles and pay $375 in that case.

Short loads pay MUCH better per mile, but they can chew up your time fast too. So there is a balancing in miles and rate. Do you take a bunch of short loads or big miles?

I would say the BIGGEST thing one has to do in this business is be flexible... No matter WHAT you do, be willing to change to market demands. Oct/Nov, I hooked on to a hopper bottom as it was paying me decent money, I was home nightly almost and it was working for me.

As much as I hate being east, this week, I am in the NE in NJ right now doing a 34 hour reset because that's what is working for me.

I'd also recommend using Quicken Home & Business or some other form of accounting software. It lets me plan my spending on what and when I will spend money. Set up in the front end (at the beginning), it will also report all your finances into tax software as well saving you more money there.

Driving, may be 20% of my job. The rest of it is planning, coordinating and other things to support the truck.

    Dinomite Thanks this.

Not sure if you are still reading, but my friend it sounds like your issue is spiritual. It has worked for me and if you are interested in more info. PM me You or anybody else who want's to know about the Living Water.

Matthew 11:[SUP]28 [/SUP]“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. [SUP]29 [/SUP]Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. [SUP]30 [/SUP]For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

No thanks. I looked at ND last February and that's what led me to what I am doing now.
