If you have credit card or debit with money on it, you can rent a car. About 50 bucks a day. But if you use debit, I recommend going to Enterprise not at the airport. They have higher requirements at the airport for some reason

    bryan21384 Thanks this.

Do what you will. You don't want advice. You want confirmation.

Off duty while fueling is a no-no and you could report the mentor for that. Should have, in fact. That is why you have your own driver rep while on a mentors truck.
Off duty or in sleeper while unloading is common after you are docked.

And it sounds like you were late enough for a delivery that your load was re-powered and another driver was taking over the load. You should have disconnected from the trailer prior to starting your 10 to make the swap easier on everyone. Even if you were asleep when the other driver got there you could have just used PC to move to the space he dropped his empty at, without effecting your 10 hour break.

They are probably not going to let you take the truck to the house. You will probably be routed into a terminal/drop lot and be given the option of a bus ticket home.

Your best option is to get routed into the terminal and rent a car. If you chose to drive to your house without authorization, you're choosing to harm yourself.

First off, in orientation you signed a form agreeing to pay for any unauthorized movement and/or truck recovery. This is a gray area and often not enforced, but if it is you're looking at $200-500 being withheld from your last check. If you can't afford a rental car, you can't afford that either.

Next, you'll be flagged with truck abandonment, which will make it very difficult to get a decent job.

And for the record, except for fueling off duty you were not coerced. You just didn't know how to do the job yet and suffered for poor choices/communication like telling Swift you're quitting on a Saturday afternoon and expecting a fast response.

Best wishes for a decent outcome.

Exactly right. He wants us to validate whatever goofy thing he's already decided to do. He's sure in the wrong place for that.
He's had some great advice from people who know what they're talking about...it just doesn't meld with his own ideas.
    Pity.

Thanks for the reply, no time left on my clock at the stop to drop the trailer without falsification of my logs. As far as the mentor thing I probably should have... I called him out on it an still remained in on duty.. Thing is that, even after obtaining a CDL there are many new learning lessons that aren't covered in training, and you can bet any new CDL OTR driver is going to have questions later on they were completely blind too..
Yes I called the terminal lead to explain an that I wasn't getting along with this guy, and his exact words were it would be the same thing with any other mentor. I took his advice on it and moved forward till the required time with the mentor done. I
could not drop the trailer at the location of the stop. Also had to have approval from management at that tiny truck stop to park in the area, not really designated for 53 ft trailers. The reason I was running late wasn't my falt, and the company was notified of the situation. Also had to be off duty shortly after stopping so I wouldn't be in violation of the HOS clock. The load was removed from my dispatch on the HOS as well as a late notification of re-powered and had an argument with the fleet manager about not dropping to load, then afterwards it was back on ma screen. Anyways this is far off the topic and I'll just wait till morning. I feel like some of the replies here have a reply like a twisted CNN news channel, geesh

This is a really unnecessary comment, you try reading far to much with very little understanding.

Dude, it's your life. You look up how much a ####ing rental car costs in your area. It's not hard to do. You do the work, don't just expect a trucker's forum to just fix your life.
