Yes you can. The driver has to meet all of the company's requirements. You get paid and in turn you pay your driver.

True to all of this, but pilots DO frequently fly tired. Sad thing is, out the gate, they get paid very little. Some even fly for free to get their required hours. Sick. I looked heavily into that career when I was laid off in 07 and decided I'd rather eat. Always wanted to be a commercial pilot, just never took the jump. Now I'm glad I didn't.

But pilots have a co-pilot and navigator/engineer as well plus a neat little feature called auto pilot.

True, but there is still an issue with fatigue that the FAA is slow in doing anything about. Not to mention, you still earn more as a truck driver than a 4-year B-seat pilot does. I'm still trying to figure out how these guys are maintaining $140k in student loan payments while only making around $30k/yr.

    Girlplayinc,
I don't mean to start an elog debate on this thread, but your statement,

is not correct. E-log has nothing to do with "your rights". If a company says you use em, then u use em. If they say you where uniforms, use qualcom then you do, or quit. Labor laws allow company's to decide whats best for them (not talking about sweat shops here) and if you aren't on board then you get canned.

Most trucking companies are "at will" and can let u go with no explantion short of "We don't need you anymore, sorry!" This method usually results in your ability to draw un-employment. If you refuse (or cant figure it out) how to use the e-log or qualcom or company shirt, you are being insubordinate and will be fired "for cause". This in not protected under the 4th amendment and you can't get unemployment,

    Anyway, back to JCT...

Elogs are nothing more than a tool to monitor a driver so the company can be more efficient. So get used to drive sleep drive sleep deliver. Dont stop or you gonna mess up the timing. drive sleep drive sleep. Deliver. Ok everybody together now. Drive sleep drive sleep. What are thinkg you cant stop and eat . What part of drive sleep dont you understand. 1 more time drive sleep drive sleep . Got it. Wait till they leave you sittg for 6hrs after you get out of the sleeper and they want you to pick up a load . And deliver 12hr later.

Gysgt apparently you havent reed the ruling by the federal court in Virginia on Aug 30 2011. The dott is aloud to use elog to monitor a company. However the company or the dot are not aloud ti use a electronic device to monitor the driver. Refer to ooida website. There a article there. With that said the govt has to rewrite the law putting in place protection clauses to protect the driver from harassment . Violation of your 4th amendment. Thats the jist of the article.Thats why you never here of a driver getting a ticket for a elog violation. Technically they cant write you 1. Not yet any way but there working on it believe that
